Reacher Season 3 Review: Off To A Strong Start

Reacher Season 3 Review: Off To A Strong Start

On Thursday night, Reacher Season 3 premiered on Amazon Prime Video with its first three episodes, and the good news is that it’s off to a strong start.

What I like about it is the cool action, the solid cast, and the return of a lone-wolf Reacher. Season 3 is a big improvement over Season 2—it’s definitely worth watching. You also find yourself rooting for the good guys and against the bad guys. It’s a classic good guy vs bad guy show.

Season 3 is much better than Season 2, which I thought was awful. The second season made Reacher seem like a dimwit, focusing too much on Maria Sten’s character, Frances Neagley, who solved everything and kicked everybody’s ass. She’s supposed to be getting a spinoff series—I won’t be watching.

In Reacher Season 3, Alan Ritchson is back to being a lone wolf tough guy. Neagley appears briefly, but it’s only in phone calls, and Reacher tells her that he doesn’t need her help. Thank you. That’s what brought Season 2 down, Reacher taking a backseat to the “team.”

The cast of Reacher Season 3 is pretty decent. I like Sonya Cassidy’s character. She’s actually British but plays more of a tough Long Island / NYC-born DEA agent. Anthony Michael Hall is always great whatever he’s in; I’ve been a fan of him since his days in Weird Science. He plays more of a villain role but it’s complicated as he has a son. Brian Tee looks to be playing the main bad guy who has a long history with Reacher. Olivier Richters is also a new fan-favorite. He’s the “Dutch Giant,” and I can’t wait to see him and Reacher duke it out. There’s some funny moments between the two. Richters plays the part well.

If you were turned off by Reacher Season 2, no worries so far, Season 3, at least the first three episodes, is worth a watch. I give them an 8/10. Hope it keeps up.

Here is the official description for Season 3 from Amazon:

Based on Lee Child’s novel Persuader, in the third season of the action-packed series, Reacher hurtles into the dark heart of a vast criminal enterprise when trying to rescue an undercover DEA informant whose time is running out. There he finds a world of secrecy and violence—and confronts some unfinished business from his own past.

New episodes of Reacher Season 3 air Thursdays on Amazon Prime Video.
