Star Wars Lands On ‘Biggest Loser’ List Of 2024

Star Wars lands on the list of the biggest losers of 2024. You know you’re in trouble when even the Hollywood shill sites reverse the narrative and turn against you.

The Hollywood Reporter, of all outlets, published an article titled “Hollywood’s Biggest Winners and Losers of 2024.” On their “Losers” list is none other than Disney Star Wars.

Disney Star Wars 'Putting All Their Chips' In Rey

Release date yanked

The site says Star Wars is a big loser because of many reasons. Among them is that the untitled – thought to be Daisy Ridley – Star Wars movie saw its release date yanked by Disney.

The film has yet to receive a new release date or be officially announced and the Ridley movie also lost another writer.

Another Star Wars trilogy announced

THR points out that Disney has also announced yet another Star Wars trilogy, this time by Simon Kinberg.

It has been questioned if it will feature a new direction for Star Wars or follow the Skywalker Saga with Rey who was first confirmed a Palpatine five years ago this weekend. Also, recall a trilogy was supposed to be released by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, but never saw the light of day.

Amandla Stenberg Stans Target YouTubers Over The Acolyte Cancellation

The Acolyte flops

THR also says The Acolyte flopped.

Recently saw a Disney exec confirm The Acolyte was canceled because no one watched it. It has also been reported the failure of the series is leading to Disney putting out less Star Wars content on Disney+.

Blame the fans? Not anymore

And if you can believe it, THR even questions:

“How many times can Disney blame its audience for not liking what it makes?”

This is something I’ve been pointing out for years, that when said project doesn’t do well, often the fans are blamed, when the blame really goes to those responsible for creating said projects. A Disney exec actually blamed fans for the failure of Star Wars and the MCU’s The Marvels. How’s that working out?

Skeleton Crew Episode 4 Review: Swing And A Big Miss: Pure Cringe

Viewers abandoning Star Wars

THR also notes that Skeleton Crew is receiving good reviews for its first two episodes.

I’d agree that the first three episodes are solid. However, things take a downturn with Episode 4. I also believe the ratings aren’t great, but that likely has more to do with viewers abandoning Star Wars after a string of poor content rather than Skeleton Crew itself being “bad.” Hopefully, the next episode marks an improvement.

The tide (finally?!) has turned

Finally, THR even questions Kathleen Kennedy (if you can believe that, too):

Who doesn’t want to be able to have projects repeatedly stumble and still keep one of Hollywood’s top jobs? The rest of us can only dream of failing so successfully!

Recently, news broke that Bob Iger is leaving Disney by 2026. It’s entirely possible that Kathleen Kennedy could be gone by then as well. Rumors about Kennedy’s departure have circulated for a while, but none have materialized so far. However, again, when Hollywood trade outlets reverse their narrative and turn against you, it’s often a sign that your time is running out.

Up next for Star Wars on the big screen is Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu. On the TV side of things includes Andor Season 2 premiering on April 22, 2025, and Ahsoka Season 2 is in the works. What’s next? The dark side clouds everything.
