Paradise Lost In ‘Extreme Development,’ The Authority Not Happening, As Gunn Answers DCU Questions

James Gunn is again answering DCU questions directly from fans, this time addressing Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and The Authority as speculation continues over which Chapter 1 projects are still moving forward.

The biggest update came when Gunn said Paradise Lost is still alive and in “extreme development,” pushing back on rumors that both it and Booster Gold may have been canceled.

James Gunn Says Paradise Lost Is In “Extreme Development”

A fan asked Gunn on Threads if Booster Gold was still in development, adding that they were hearing rumors Booster Gold and Paradise Lost had been canceled.

Gunn replied: “BG is in development. PL is in extreme development.”

The timing also stands out because Wonder Woman talk has picked up again following rumors that Gunn could introduce the DCU’s Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow.

Adria Arjona Rumors Continue

Adria Arjona has been reported to play Maxima in Man of Tomorrow, but that has not stopped speculation that she could actually be playing Wonder Woman.

The Hollywood Reporter has also questioned if Maxima is the real role, which has only fueled the online debate. Gunn previously said Arjona would make a “great” Wonder Woman, though he denied that any Wonder Woman casting had happened at the time.

If Paradise Lost is now in “extreme development,” it suggests DC Studios may be moving faster on the Wonder Woman corner of the DCU than previously thought. It has also been reported a Wonder Woman film is being fast-tracked.

Booster Gold Is Still In Development

Gunn also confirmed Booster Gold is still in development, which comes after fans questioned the status of the series.

As previously covered, writer David Jenkins recently deleted his Instagram posts about Booster Gold, including a post where he confirmed he was writing the pilot.

The deletions sparked speculation that Booster Gold may have been canceled or that the project had changed behind the scenes. Jenkins later responded to a fan and said, “As far as I know it’s still in the pipeline.”

Gunn’s latest comment now backs that up, though it does not confirm if Jenkins is still attached or if the creative team has changed.

Gunn Addresses The Authority

Gunn also responded to a fan who claimed he was “almost certainly” the writer/director on The Authority before the project slipped off the DCU schedule.

Gunn pushed back and said it was only “a normal slip of the tongue.” He added that he would never have had time to write or direct The Authority because he “was in a popular theory online” but was “never going to be able to do this.”

Gunn also gave a more direct reason the project has not moved forward.

“The script wasn’t quite there but more importantly it didn’t work in terms of the larger DCU both in terms of the story and practical concerns,” he said. “Maybe some day. Not soon.”

That makes The Authority sound like one of the weaker Chapter 1 projects at the moment. Gunn is not calling it dead, but “not soon” is not a strong sign.
