HBO has released the first trailer for Harry Potter and confirmed the series will premiere this Christmas on HBO Max, which is earlier than the 2027 launch window that had been widely expected.
The teaser positions the show as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and signals that HBO is moving faster with the reboot than previously thought.

HBO moves Harry Potter up
The Christmas release date is the big surprise.
Earlier reporting from January had the Harry Potter series eyed for early 2027, while more recent coverage still described the show as a 2027 debut. The new trailer changes that and officially puts the series on HBO Max this Christmas.
For Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s a major shift. Harry Potter is one of the company’s biggest brands, and moving the series up gives HBO Max a huge holiday event much sooner than expected.

New cast leads the reboot
The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.

Creative team behind the series
The Harry Potter series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod executive producing and directing multiple episodes.
Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers are composing the score. The show comes from HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers also include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.
