Avengers Reunion At Oscars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Channing Tatum Tease Doomsday

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans brought an Avengers reunion to the Oscars stage, with Channing Tatum joining in during the bit as Marvel fans got another look at the growing Avengers: Doomsday lineup.

Entertainment Tonight posted video (watch below) of the moment from the 98th Academy Awards, where Downey and Evans reunited nine months before they return to the big screen in Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters December 18.

The Oscars segment played up the history between the two Marvel stars, with Evans and Downey trading jokes in front of the audience.

The bit even included a Magic Mike gag, with Downey joking that he brought Evans “the official tanning Chadam thong from Magic Mike,” before Evans joked he needed an item back because he had to “work later.”

It was a clear callback to their Marvel history while also serving as another reminder that both stars are part of Avengers: Doomsday.

Channing Tatum also appeared in the crowd, adding another Marvel connection to the Oscars reunion.

Tatum is coming off his shoulder injury, and his appearance stood out as another Doomsday-related crossover, especially after his Gambit debut in Deadpool & Wolverine.

With Downey, Evans, and Tatum all linked to Avengers: Doomsday, the Oscars segment came off like a mini Marvel promo without actually being one.

Presenters at the Oscars also included Lewis Pullman and Pedro Pascal.

Tatum talks up the movie

In the Entertainment Tonight clip, Tatum also hyped Avengers: Doomsday and said fans are not ready for what Marvel has planned.

Tatum said while reading the script he kept wondering how they were going to pull it off, adding that fans are “just not ready.” He compared the expected reaction to the kind of massive crowd response seen when Blade appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, only on a much bigger scale.

He also said comic book fans especially are going to lose their minds over what’s coming.
