Dafne Keen as Wonder Woman? Fans Weigh In

With James Gunn rebooting the DCU, teasing “encouraging news” soon, and with those recent comments from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav saying how important Wonder Woman will be going forward, fans are debating if Dafne Keen would be a good choice to play the Princess of Themyscira.

A recent fan debate on the Reddit sub  r/DC_Cinematic has sparked a large discussion (nearly 300 comments and upvotes) around a fan’s bold wild idea: Dafne Keen as Wonder Woman.

Keen, of course, is known for her breakout role as Laura/X‑23 in Logan and recently reprised the role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Nothing has been said about the future of X-23, though rumors suggest she could return in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars, but how about Dafne Keen jumping ship to DC as Wonder Woman?

The Discussion: Talent vs. Physical Presence

The debate among fans is whether or not Dafne Keen has the look of Wonder Woman. She’s got good acting chops, no doubt, but Wonder Woman is around 6-feet in the comics, while Keen is around 5’3″. Gal Gadot recently played the role for Zack Snyder and is around 5’10”. Interestingly enough, Keen’s Marvel co-star Hugh Jackman is much taller than the counterpart he plays in the movies, as Wolverine is around 5’3″ and Jackman is around 6′ 2″. They even made fun of it in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Fans react:

  • “She’s a great actress, love her X‑23,… but physically too small for the role.”
  • “Bro she is literally 5’3. Not exactly Amazonian stature here.”
  • “Too young, too short… no way her 5’3 frame looks convincing standing next to … Batman.”

Some emphasize age and presence:

  • “Definitely too young. She’s supposed to be like 1000 years old … She should have an air of experience to her.”

Despite the concerns, others urge not to overlook her performance over body metrics:

  • “I mean, as long as she can act, it can’t be worse. I’d rather a short WW than a wooden one.”

Supporters also point out how height might no matter:

  • “Height can be fixed with the right shoes n camera work.”

Dafne Keen As Wonder Woman: Could It Work?

Casting Keen as Wonder Woman is clearly a dream scenario for some, largely centered around her performance skills and star power. But the prevailing view is that her height (5′3″) and young age clash with Wonder Woman’s larger-than-life presence.

Still, in the world of modern movies, clever cinematography, wardrobe choices, and confidence can overcome physical barriers. After all, Scarlett Johansson played Black Widow in the MCU, and she is also 5′3″. Florence Pugh? 5′4″.

Alternate Roles in the DCU

While Dafne Keen might not end up playing Wonder Woman, the fan excitement shows she could have a successful future in the DCU.

What other roles could she play? How about Wonder Girl/Cassie Sandsmark or even Raven from Teen Titans?

What’s next for Dafne Keen

Dafne Keen is starring in the new horror movie, Whistle, which just released a first look.

She is also starring in the horror movie, Night Comes.

Keen also has The Marshmallow Experiment coming out, where actor Sam McCarthy plays Alex, a socially awkward teen battling high school and an uncontrollable online porn addiction (or as it turns out, not hard enough).

And again, the rumors also offer Dafne Keen will be back as her fan-favorite character from Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine, Laura aka X-23, in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars which is currently filming. Hugh Jackman is also rumored to return.
