Check out a first look at Dafne Keen in the upcoming new horror movie Whistle, from The Nun director Corin Hardy, which has now been acquired by Independent Film Company and Shudder.
The Plot
In Whistle, a misfit group of unwitting high school students stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down. As the body count rises, the friends investigate the origins of the deadly artifact in a desperate effort to stop the horrifying chain of events that they have set in motion.
The Cast and Creative Team
Alongside Dafne Keen, the cast includes Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets), Sky Yang (Rebel Moon), Percy Hynes White (My Old Ass), and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead).
The film is written by Owen Egerton and based on his short story. It’s produced by David Gross, Jesse Shapira, and Macdara Kelleher.
Theatrical Release Incoming
Following strong box office results from Clown in a Cornfield, Independent Film Company and Shudder plan a wide U.S. theatrical release for Whistle.
Director Corin Hardy said the movie was built for theaters and taps into classic horror energy with cinematic, imaginative kills.
“Whistle is made with the same heart-on-sleeve, disenfranchised-teen-spirit found in my favorite genre movies that I grew up watching,” said Hardy. “I was drawn to the mysterious mythology surrounding the ‘Death Whistle’ and how it presented me with the opportunity to create a variety of cinematic, imaginative and terrifying deaths. This film is built for the big screen experience, so I can’t wait for audiences to blow the Whistle with Independent Film Company and Shudder in cinemas!”
Distribution and Industry Response
Adam Koehler of Independent Film Company called Hardy’s work “a vicious and bloody treat” and praised its place among recent standout horror films.
“Corin Hardy is a master of his craft and we’re overjoyed to be bringing this horrifying vision to audiences across the country,” said Koehler. “With Whistle, he’s created a vicious and bloody treat that will stand tall among the best and scariest horror films in recent box office history.”
The acquisition was handled by Koehler and CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.
What’s next for Dafne Keen?
Dafne Keen is also starring in the horror movie, Night Comes.
She’s also starring in The Marshmallow Experiment, where Sam McCarthy plays Alex, a socially awkward teen battling high school and an uncontrollable online porn addiction. Or as it turns out, not hard enough.
Rumors also offer Dafne Keen will be back as her fan-favorite character from Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine, Laura aka X-23, in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars.
