Exactly as I said, now James Gunn confirms that Matt Reeves is still directing The Batman 2, and he’s surprised anyone even questioned it.
Following fans and various sites running wild with some supposed production listing for The Batman: Part II not listing Matt Reeves as the director, just as I suggested, a fan questioned Gunn on Threads, “Is Matt Reeves still directing The Batman Part II?”
What did James Gunn say?
Gunn replied Saturday, who seemed to wonder why the question was even asked, “Yes. Huh?“
The Batman 2 not canceled
Back in November of last year, Gunn also responded to fans who questioned about a false rumor Batman 2 had been canceled.
“Like why would you even believe a rando on social networking? Of course not,” replied Gunn. “If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script.”
What happened?
So what happened is the website Production Weekly posted a “listing” that supposedly shows The Batman: Part II will be filming in March 2026. It lists dates, descriptions, and supposedly people involved with the movie. However, the listing doesn’t have Matt Reeves as the director, only the writer.
So various sites and fans ran with it that Matt Reeves isn’t directing The Batman: Part II. Since the film has seen numerous delays and it’s known Reeves is going through a personal issue, fans and those sites just ran with it Reeves is not directing.
However, if you actually did a little homework, you would have found the Production Weekly listing is the same they posted from years ago, which – guess what? – also didn’t bother to list a director.
It’s worth noting the site isn’t anything official, they’ve previously posted wrong info, and even James Gunn previously shot down their info regarding a Mr. Freeze movie happening and going into production. The site has also listed lots of other projects, most of which have been rumored, as going into production or happening when they aren’t or never have.
So, yes, Matt Reeves is still directing The Batman: Part II. The latest is that he is currently finishing the script, which was just confirmed by the heads of WB movies, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.

The Batman: Part II gets released in theaters on October 1, 2027. Robert Pattinson will be back in the role.
