We get an official update on The Batman 2 in regards to Matt Reeves and the script from Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.
In an interview with Deadline, the pair offer that Reeves still has yet to finish the script:
We’re not in the weeds on the Batman stuff. It’s really James and Peter Safran who run DC. We have a bit of other collaboration with Matt Reeves, but Peter and James know he is a writer-directing auteur in his own right, and that it will come when he’s written his best Batman script and is ready.
In addition to developing The Batman 2, De Luca and Abdy offer Matt Reeves is producing the remake of Them, which has Werewolf By Night director Michael Giacchino attached:
Are there specific examples where big talent has been matched with library IP?
Yes. Drew Goddard, writing and directing The Matrix. Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Jay Roach, with their Oceans Eleven prequel; Matt Reeves as producer, working with Marvel’s Werewolf By Night director Michael Giacchino on a remake of our library title Them; Andy Serkis directing Gollum. Others we can’t talk about yet.

What is going on with The Batman 2?
The reason for the delay is because of a personal matter going on with director Matt Reeves. It’s his business, so we’re not going to go into more.
Release info
That said, The Batman 2 release date was recently delayed to October 1, 2027. Robert Pattinson is still attached and recently confirmed filming will take place at the end of the year.
It has been announced that Robert Pattinson is being eyed for the main villain role in Dune 3. According to reports, he may have recently finished filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. If Pattinson does land the part in Dune 3, he’ll still have enough time to finish The Batman 2. No, it hasn’t been canceled.
