Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’- Now ‘New Avengers’ - Bombs Again on Monday

I just went over how Kevin Feige lost the MCU fans. Now it’s learned that despite rebranding and renaming to “New Avengers,” Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie bombs at the box office on Monday. It’s also after The Avengers actors themselves tried to promote the movie from the set of Doomsday.

‘New Avengers’ Hits Near-Historic Low With $5M Monday Haul

Thunderbolts, the New Avengers – whatever you want to call it – brought in only $5 million on Monday, which is the third lowest Monday for an MCU movie.

It’s actually the second lowest Monday when inflation if factored in, only outperforming The Marvels, just like its box office opening over the weekend which was revealed to be lower at only $74M.

Even Old MCU Movies Beat ‘New Avengers’ as It Struggles Toward $350M

Movies from over nearly twenty years ago also beat New Avengers, as Incredible Hulk brought in $6M back in 2008. Ant-Man also brought in $6.4M back in 2015. How about Eternals? Its first Monday brought in $4.3M, however, when inflation is factored in, it’s Monday is actually around $5.07M, beating Thunderbolts.

Through four days, New Avengers is at $79.3M domestically. Captain America: Brave New World opened to $100M for its four-day but had the benefit of President’s Day on Monday where it brought in $11.1M for its first Monday. It’s confirmed to be a bomb, too.

Cap 4 has a $414.9M worldwide box office. As I said, New Avengers / Thunderbolts will be lucky to hit $400M. If nothing changes, it’s actually on track for barely $350M.

Thunderbolts Review: Fans Might Love It - If They Can Handle the Cringe

Feige’s ‘New Avengers’ Rebrand Backfires With Fans and Box Office

This weekend will reveal if Feige changing the title to New Avengers has made a difference. However, what happens when viewers go to see Thunderbolts expecting New Avengers and only get it at the end of the movie and in a goofy post-credit scene?

New Avengers has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. Ditto for comic fans who are used to the New Avengers being made up of a super team with Iron Man, Cap, Wolverine, and Spider-Man.

The MCU’s version is a complete joke compared to them. It shows how out of touch Kevin Feige is with the fans.

It also goes to show the success of the MCU up until Endgame was a result of Jon Favreau, Joss Whedon, James Gunn and the Russos. What happened when they left? The MCU completely tanked under Feige.
