Just as Julia Garner is set to become the MCU’s female Sentinel of the Spaceways, Marvel Comics follows suit and announces the death of the Silver Surfer.
Marvel Studios previously announced Garner will play the female Silver Surfer in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie which gets released in July (spoilers I’ve been told here). With the release of the Captain Marvel movie and post-Endgame, similar to the Marvel Comics, the MCU has made it a point of replacing fan-favorite characters and erasing decades and decades worth of stories from legendary creators for DEI purposes. Well, the Silver Surfer is next.
On Thursday, Marvel.com announced Death of the Silver Surfer, a new limited series launching this June from Greg Pak and Sumit Kumar.

What are the details?
The details for the Death of the Silver Surfer include “the five-issue limited series promises a tragic fate for Norrin Radd as a new enemy that even the Power Cosmic can’t overcome rises in might.”
The announcement continues, “This new rival will stop at nothing to crush the Sentinel of the Spaceways and his allies, the Fantastic Four. But their earth-shattering battle will come at a cost: what ancient secrets lie in the shadows of Surfer’s past? Secrets known only to… Galactus?!”
The announcement continues adds in what sounds like a retcon is also coming (Marvel Comics is also retconning the X-Men and Ms. Marvel again), “The Silver Surfer returns to defend a war-ravaged Earth, but Norrin has a galaxy-sized target on his back. Facing a threat capable of stealing away everything he is or ever will be, a single human life may be all that decides the Surfer’s salvation…or damnation. If the Surfer falls, who then wields the awesome Power Cosmic?”

Death of Silver Surfer #1 Variant covers
It’s even revealed that former Marvel Comics EIC Joe Quesada is doing a variant cover, which is hilarious. Quesada has never been a fan of Marvel Cosmic and even told Newsarama years ago he wasn’t a fan of Silver Surfer and didn’t understand Marvel Cosmic. When I helped on Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy, I was told Joe Q. only cared about if they made any money. Times have changed. Hey, Joe Q is no doubt a good artist, right?

Marvel is also releasing a Foil cover variant by Ron Lim who did that stellar Foil cover of Silver Surfer #50 back in the day with Thanos. Additional variants include Nick Bradshaw, Trad Moore, and a Marvel Hidden Gem Variant by John Romita Jr. which is basically new version of old artwork, I believe.
