Star Wars: ‘Skeleton Crew’ Cut First Arab Female Jedi

Star Wars: 'Skeleton Crew' Cut First Arab Female Jedi

It’s learned there were plans to include a Jedi flashback scene in the Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, with Arab actress Yasmine Al Massri playing the character.

If you haven’t watched the final episode, spoilers follow.

In Skeleton Crew, Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood has force powers and is skilled with a lightsaber. In the final episode, Jod reveals he was trained by a Jedi whom he watched die in front of him. This led Jod on his path to becoming a pirate and such.

First Arab female Jedi

Now actress Yasmine Al Massri has revealed on social media that she played the Jedi in a flashback scene that didn’t make it into the final cut of Skeleton Crew:

This was the shortest acting job I have done but the most meaningful to the child in me.. playing a Jedi for one scene in Skeleton Crew.. I gave a speech when the crew wrapped me on set saying : you just created the first Arab female Jedi.. thank you.. the scene unfortunately Didn’t make it to the finale cut bc these things happen.. but I can not not share my experience and feelings.. even Liam rehearsed that scene with me and I got to brag about it with his friends which got me coolest mom respect for a moment 😂.. #skeletoncrew #jedi for #one #scene #day #gratitude for #life ..

“Post-Order 66 Jedis trying to survive”

As seen below in her Instagram post, Yasmine Al Massri played a Jedi where, according to the showrunners, she was killed after Order 66. Christopher Ford filled in Collider that Jod was found by the Jedi after Order 66: “It’s supposed to be a post-Order 66 Jedis trying to survive out of time.”

Judging from the video that Jasmine Al Massri posted of herself training for the role, it seems as if the flashback scene was a major battle scene. Jasmine Al Massri shows herself training to wield a lightsaber, there is a fight choreographer, and she seems to show off what may be a blaster injury. Likely, a group hunted her down and killed her in front of Jod who was then left to fend for himself.

It’s unknown why the scene was cut but it may have been cut because it would have possibly made Jod out to be more of a sympathetic character and less a bad guy or a scoundrel. It’s questioned if Jod was actually redeemed at the end of the series.

Will there be a Skeleton Crew Season 2?

The Jedi deleted scene could very well show up if there is a second season, but the ratings haven’t been great and there has been no announcement by Disney. Rumors do offer that characters from Skeleton Crew will appear in the Dave Filoni Star Wars movie. Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood was the best part of Skeleton Crew, so it would make sense for Jod to appear again.
