Frank Grillo has more good things to say about James Gunn’s Superman and the new Man of Steel, David Corenswet, with mention of Henry Cavill, ahead of what is said to be the trailer dropping around Christmas.
Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 1, recently dropped a bomb that went viral that he got to watch the trailer. Grillo said the trailer is “great” and that “my skin was hot and I had goosebumps.” He also said good things about David Corenswet stating the actor is “going to be a superstar” and is “amazing.”
Now while talking with Kristian Harloff about the DCU and about his upcoming Werewolves movie, Frank Grillo drops more bombs as he compares Henry Cavill and David Corenswet, with Corenswet reminding him of a Christopher Reeve who Grillo knew as they shared the same acting coach. Superman also happens to be Grillo’s favorite superhero.
What does Frank Grillo say about Henry Cavill?
When asked what it is about David Corenswet that makes him the real deal and what fans should be excited about, Frank first mentions Henry:
Henry Cavill, beautiful dude. I mean, God touched him on the shoulder and said, “I’m going to make you handsome.” Right?
What does Frank Grillo say about David Corenswet and Christopher Reeve?
Grillo continued and said Corenswet reminds him of Christopher Reeve:
With David, there’s something very Christopher Reeve about him [big smile]. He’s got a stoicism. There’s a seriousness. I think they both went to Julliard. They are very serious actors.
Grillo also recalls how impressed he was when he first saw Corenswet in the suit:
First of all, I’m 5’10.” The guy stepped out from behind the curtain with the suit on, I was like [looks up], “Oh my, God! You are Superman!”
David Corenswet is Superman says Frank Grillo
Grillo continued:
He encompasses this aura. Superman to me was never morally derelict. Superman stood for something. He was steadfast. He was a naivete and a vulnerability about him — when I was watching Superman as a kid.
And there’s something about this guy. I don’t know if I can articulate it but I was like, “Oh, this guy is Superman. He’s Superman [smiles and laughs].”
Creature Commandos arrives on Max on Dec. 5; Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025; Peacemaker Season 2 is thought to premiere later this year. Frank Grillo’s Werewolves gets released Friday, and he stars in Tulsa King Season 2 with Sylvester Stallone on Paramount+.
