Is The Batman 2 Is Canceled? James Gunn Responds

There apparently has been online chatter as of late that the Matt Reeves Batman universe and The Batman 2 could be canceled.

Adding fuel to the fire probably includes the recent rumor that Robert Pattinson has met with Marvel’s Kevin Feige. Obviously that could imply Robert Pattinson is looking for a new superhero role to play, or supervillain. If Pattinson is still playing Batman, why would he be in talks with Marvel?

It also doesn’t help that Robert Pattinson recently signed on to the new Christopher Nolan movie which films next year, which is thought when The Batman Part II would be filming. A recent report from THR said nothing is close to being planned.

Jeffrey Wright also said he has no idea what is going on.

Well, fans think it’s because the Matt Reeves Batman universe is canceled.

What does James Gunn say about Matt Reeves’ Batman universe?

A fan questioned James Gunn on Threads about what’s up pointing to a recent exchange between fans on social media.

The post also mentions that Matt Reeves has yet to turn in his script for The Batman 2. While Matt Reeves recently seemed to say he is working with DC Studios and turned in a version of the script, co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn, has shot that down.

Gunn does so again as he responds to the fan he is “eagerly awaiting” Matt Reeves’ script for The Batman 2.

“Like why would you even believe a rando on social networking? Of course not. If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script.”

Waiting on The Batman: Part II script

Regarding what Matt Reeves previously said, in a September interview with SFX magazine, Matt Reeves revealed that The Batman II is set to begin filming next year, with the script nearing completion.

Reeves confirmed that Colin Farrell will return as the Penguin in the sequel and stated, “We’ve been sharing [the script] with DC as we go along, and they’re super excited.”

Fans also questioned Gunn about the script a few days ago on Threads, as a user asked, “James, it was reported a while back that Matt Reeves has already finished the script for The Batman II, is that really true?”

Gunn replied, “I think that report was well-intentioned but it was mistaken. We are very much looking forward to it.”
