You just made $1.3 billion on movie, so know what your next project is? Yep, you reunite with the actor and director, but guess what? It’s not on a sequel or even a related project, but something else entirely.
Wow, what is going on?!
It’s announced that following Deadpool & Wolverine bringing in over $1.3 billion at the box office that Ryan Reynolds is back at it and will be reuniting with Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.
However, it’s not on a Deadpool & Wolverine sequel. And it’s not at Marvel, and possibly not even at Disney.
It’s also going to take Ryan Reynolds a year to write the project, which then means they have to film it after that — which of course means Deadpool & Wolverine 2 isn’t happening, or at the least, isn’t happening any time soon, and if it does ever happen is years away (maybe one of those 2028 release dates???).
We get the report from Variety who writes up a report how Ryan Reynolds is writing a non-Marvel project that will reunite him with Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy after the big success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Reynolds confirmed the news at on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast episode.
“I’m spending the year writing,” Reynolds revealed during the podcast. “I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel.”
The article notes that Reynolds kept the details about the new project to himself but that “his enthusiasm hinted at something fresh and unexpected” — and again it is mentioned how it will take Reynolds a year to write the project.
It’s also unknown what studio the mystery project is at or whether it has even been greenlit by a studio.
With Deadpool & Wolverine scoring over a billion dollars at the box office, it’s further noted that Reynolds, Jackman and Levy’s “upcoming film will surely become one of Hollywood’s most highly anticipated films.”
Yet again, not Deadpool & Wolverine 2, and not even a Marvel movie, and possibly not at Disney.
Reynolds and Levy working together on the new project is the third time they will work together. The two previous times were Free Guy at Disney’s 20th Century Studios, and The Adam Project at Netflix.
You would at least think Disney would try to pick up the project – whatever it is – at its 20th Century Studios, so also as Variety notes, this new project is something to be on the watch for.
Fans were also probably hoping for a Deadpool & Wolverine 2 announcement following the massive success of the first movie, and especially considering how badly the MCU has been the past five years, but it might not be coming soon.
