It’s claimed that Andy Muschietti is no longer directing the Batman movie for James Gunn’s DCU, The Brave and the Bold.
Just prior to the release of The Flash movie, Muschietti was named as the director of The Brave and the Bold; however, as we all know, The Flash massively bombed.
Who to blame for The Flash?
Reportedly, James Gunn changed the ending to The Flash, and my friends in Hollywood have told me the VFX went unfinished.
I was also told the real ending to The Flash involved introducing a Batman Multiverse which would have seen Ben Affleck continue as Batman, and Michael Keaton starring in a Batman Beyond movie, among other things.
So I would question just how much of The Flash bombing is actually Andy Muschietti’s fault. I’ve also been told WBD CEO David Zaslav was behind all the recent DC changes and demanded that Gunn reboot DC with cheaper talent.
Regardless what happened with The Flash, it’s now rumored Andy Muschietti is no longer directing Brave and the Bold and hasn’t been for a while.
What does the rumor say?
The rumor comes via John Rocha of the Hot Mic Podcast, as Rocha and Jeff Sneider were asked about the status of Brave and the Bold and Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2.
Regarding Reeves’ The Batman 2, it seems to be just fine and that Reeves is simply still finishing up his script. Worth a mention is that Gunn recently shot down claims that The Batman 2 and 3 have been canceled.
For Brave and the Bold, John Rocha says he “heard different” that Andy Muschietti is still directing.
When questioned by Sneider, Sneider mentions that Rocha heard different a long time ago and questions if he is still hearing that?
“Yes,” said Rocha. “Yes.”
Rocha didn’t expand upon what he was told, but again, he heard that Andy Muschietti is no longer directing Brave and the Bold.
As we all know, James Gunn likes to shoot down rumors, so we’ll have to see what he says about this one, as it’s a pretty big and bold claim.
What is Brave and the Bold about?
The film doesn’t have a release date and DC describes the movie as the DCU introducing its Batman and Robin (Damian Wayne) in this unusual father-son story inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic series.
In the DCU press event from January of 2023, Gunn described Damian Wayne as Robin “who is a little son of a bitch.”
“This is the introduction of the DCU Batman,” said Gunn. “Of Bruce Wayne and also introduces our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch.”
Gunn continued, “Assassin, murderer who Batman takes on, who is Batman’s actual son that he doesn’t know exists for the first 8-10 years of his life….it’s a strange father and son story about the two of them and based on Grant Morrison’s run of the Batman.”
