Robert Downey Jr. now says he is open to a return as Tony Stark and Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Of course the character sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame, but that hasn’t stopped fan speculation and rumors about a potential return thanks to the Multiverse.
Rumors have offered Robert Downey Jr. could be back in Avengers: Secret Wars.
While Kevin Feige has seemingly shot down the idea of a return, while participating in Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” feature, Jodie Foster asks Robert Downey Jr. if he would think of putting the suit back on again for Tony Stark? RDJ replies:
It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea. Between “Nyad” and [“Night Country”] and, for me, “Oppenheimer” and then “Sympathizer,” it really is crazy because we look pretty good. I was actually looking at the stills we were taking, making sure: “Do we still look kind of OK?” I’m like, “We look pretty good.”
Avengers: Secret Wars gets released on May 7, 2027. No director is attached as of yet.
