Lionsgate Movies has released the trailer for Miller’s Girl which stars Jenna Ortega, but it comes with a warning at the end as the movie has “complex themes.”
Jenna Ortega stars as an 18-year-old college girl with Martin Freeman as her professor. I think you can see where this is going but apparently, Jenna Ortega’s character is a bit on the cuckoo side and tries to ruin Freeman’s character’s life, at least judging from the trailer.
The Miller’s Girl trailer says at the end, “There are complex themes that appear in this film.” People are then directed to the Lionsgate website “to access resources on some of the subject matter.”
Upon visiting the website and scrolling down, “Resources” are listed which include links to various social justice sites that involve preventing sexual assault in schools, finding a counselor, the national sexual assault helpline, “a call to men” to treat women right, #METOO, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, National Women’s Law Center, and the UN Women.
Oddly, again the trailer makes it seem as if Jenna Ortega’s character is doing the abusing but nothing seems listed on the website to help male victims. Maybe Ortega’s character is a victim of sexual abuse hence her behavior.
What is Miller’s Girl about?
Per the official synopsis, “A talented young writer (Jenna Ortega) embarks on a creative odyssey when her teacher (Martin Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.”
Miller’s Girl gets released on January 26, 2024, directed by Jade Halley Bartlett who makes her directorial debut and the film also stars Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin, and Gideon Adlon.
