Taika Waititi won’t be coming back for Thor 5, so it has been claimed Marvel is looking at Gareth Edwards to take over the reins.
It’s also claimed that Thor 5 is in development and that it will have a darker tone.
Gareth Edwards is known for Monster, Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and recently The Creator, which fits the bill.
The director recently spoke with BroBible and addressed the rumors about directing Thor 5, mentioning he hadn’t heard anything about it and joked about the situation with his girlfriend.
“I saw those rumors too. I saw it and I jokingly sent it to my girlfriend. I just texted her the link and said, ‘I didn’t want you to find out this way,’” Edwards said. “I’ve never heard anything about it. It’s totally… the internet is an incredible place.”
Fan of Marvel
He did express admiration for Marvel movies.
“I love those movies. I love Marvel, a lot of my friends work on Marvel films,” he said.
However, Edwards said he wanted to stick with his original films but he does say never say never.
“And so I’m very excited about having another go at my own film. I love all the other movies and franchises, I go to see them. I have most of them on my DVD/Blu-ray shelf. But I really want to keep pursuing original sci-fi. Was that a very politically correct answer? I never say never. In the right circumstances, absolutely,” said Edwards.
In addition to it said Thor 5 is happening, it’s also said Chris Hemsworth will be back in the role. Hemsworth has also said he wants the character to go in a new direction.
“Look, I’m completely open to it, if there is something unique and fresh and unexpected to do with the character and the world. I’ve always loved the experience. I’ve been very thankful I’ve been able to do something different each time,” he said in a previous interview.
