Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day First Reactions Are Out Of This World

The first reactions to Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day are in, and it sounds like Universal might have a major summer event movie on its hands.

The final trailer has also been released, tickets are now on sale, and early buzz is pointing to a big return for Spielberg in the sci-fi genre.

Disclosure Day opens only in theaters on June 12.

First Reactions Praise Spielberg’s Return To Sci-Fi

The early reactions are glowing, with critics praising Disclosure Day as one of Spielberg’s strongest movies in years.

One reaction calls the movie “another towering home run” from Spielberg and recommends going in knowing as little as possible. Emily Blunt is also singled out as “incredible,” with the reaction suggesting her performance could get awards-season attention even though Disclosure Day is being released as a big summer movie.

Another reaction calls Disclosure Day “the weirdest movie Spielberg’s ever made,” while praising the visuals, David Koepp’s script, Emily Blunt’s performance, and John Williams’ score.

The praise doesn’t stop there, as another reaction describes the film as “top tier Spielberg,” comparing its energy to Raiders while saying it carries the emotional weight of his later work.

Emily Blunt Gets Big Praise

A big takeaway from the reactions is the praise for Emily Blunt.

Multiple reactions single out her performance, with one calling it her most accomplished work yet. Another says the film features an “all-time character/performance” from Blunt.

The movie also stars Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo, giving Spielberg a stacked cast for his new original sci-fi event movie.

The studio is selling the movie with the line, “Believe it when you see it,” while teasing a story built around the question of what would happen if humanity learned it was not alone.

Disclosure Day is based on a story by Spielberg, with the screenplay written by David Koepp. Koepp previously worked with Spielberg on Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The film is produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger and Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment. Adam Somner and Chris Brigham executive produce.
