Beck Bennett is playing Steve Lombard, a blowhard and self-serving reporter who in the comics serves as a foil to boy scout reporter Clark Kent.

Mikaela Hoover is playing Cat Grant, who in the comics was a gossip columnist who had her eyes set on Clark.

Christopher MacDonald is playing Ron Troupe, one of the best reporters in the newsroom, who in the comics has a relationship and son with Lois Lane’s sister, Lucy Lane.

Gunn confirmed all three castings on social media.

“Welcome to the DCU, Steve Lombard!” posted Gunn, adding in a separate post, “Welcome to the DCU @mikaela & @misterchristophermcdonald #CatGrant #RonTroupe #Superman.”

Beck Bennett is known for Saturday Night Live and lots of voice actor work.

Mikaela Hoover provided the voice of Floor in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3, played Camila in The Suicide Squad, and Nova Prime’s Assistant in the first Guardians.

Christopher MacDonald (not to be mistaken by Happy Gilmore‘s Christopher McDonald) is reported as a newcomer to the screen.

James Gunn’s Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.

Starring in the film includes David Corenswet as Superman and Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela De Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Terence Rosemore as Otis. Milly Alcock is also thought to be debuting as Supergirl prior to her own movie.
