Zack Snyder Comments On Mass Destruction In Man of Steel; Watch Richard Donner Superman Do It, Too

I recall when Man of Steel was released many online couldn’t believe the sheer amount of destruction present in a “Superman” movie.

For some reason, large-scale destruction caused by super-powered beings battling it out didn’t make much sense to some folks.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and now Zack Snyder comments on the mass destruction in Man of Steel, comparing it to the myths of old.

Via JapanTimes:

I wanted the movie to have a mythological feeling. In ancient mythology, mass deaths are used to symbolize disasters. In other countries like Greece and Japan, myths were recounted through the generations, partly to answer unanswerable questions about death and violence. In America, we don’t have that legacy of ancient mythology. Superman (who first appeared in ‘Action Comics’ in 1938) is probably the closest we get. It’s a way of recounting the myth.

Interestingly enough I was watching Superman: The Movie the other day and noticed Donner do something similar, albeit with Krypton.

Check it out; bodies getting squished and falling all over the place.

Perhaps Snyder may have also wanted to set Lex Luthor up as the savior of Metropolis in the sequel…
