We Want Nova For Guardians of the Galaxy 3

James Gunn! It is critical you pay attention at this time!

Today saw James Gunn announce that he will be returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Worth a mention is that James Gunn said Guardians of the Galaxy 3 “will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond.”

Gunn also added that he “will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.”

With James Gunn stating Marvel Cosmic has a definite future in the MCU, it now sounds like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 would be the perfect time to introduce none other than Richard Rider Nova, arguably the Marvel comics character responsible for there being a Guardians of the Galaxy movie in the first place!

Marvel Comics launched Richard Rider Nova into the stratosphere with the 2005/6 Annihilation event by Keith Giffen. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, responsible for the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic that inspired the movie, wrote the Annihilation: Nova tie-in. Eventually, Nova would get his own title (2007), a second Annihilation event would be released (“Conquest”) and the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy team would be formed.

James Gunn also happened to rewrite Nicole Perlman’s first Guardians of the Galaxy movie script, and he cut Nova from the film to focus on Star-Lord as the only Earth-centric character. While it seems Gunn isn’t a big fan of Nova (or he just gets annoyed by us Nova fans asking for Richard Rider), with Guardians of the Galaxy 3 sounding like a launch pad for Marvel COSMIC movies, Richard Rider Nova would be a perfect character to go with.

James Gunn could simply introduce Richard Rider Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and then another director could come on board and go with it. Imagine if Marvel Studios did some sort of adaptation of Annihilation? Think Ridley Scott on a Richard Rider Nova movie or Tron director Joseph Kosinksi! Or how about Colin Trevorrow, Gareth Edwards, or Neill Blomkamp?!

Nova could be another human relatable character in space and another big franchise for Marvel Studios!
