The Walking Dead Ratings Lowest Since Season 1

The Walking Dead ratings continue to plummet.

Following the death of Carl episode which saw the lowest ratings for a mid-season premiere, now the follow-up episode has the lowest ratings for The Walking Dead since the first season.

Sunday’s episode scored a 2.9 in the coveted 18-49 age demographic, which is the first time The Walking Dead fell below a 3.0 since the next-to-last episode of Season 1 in November 2010.

The death of Carl episode a week prior actually had a rating of a 3.6, so the 2.9 is a big drop.

6.82 million total viewers also tuned in for this past Sunday’s episode, which marks the smallest viewership for The Walking Dead since the March 4, 2012 Season 2 episode that drew in 6.77 million people.

The Walking Dead did face competition on Sunday from the Oscars, but the Oscars had historic lows in ratings and viewership, so that doesn’t necessarily look to be a major factor.

I wouldn’t be surprised if The Walking Dead ratings continue to drop, as I think the death of Carl was an “exit” episode–meaning a lot of fans found the episode a good point to stop watching.

Regarding why The Walking Dead has been so bad, Redditors weigh in with their two cents.
