Rachael Taylor Cast As Hellcat For Jessica Jones Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18943:]]

Marvel has announced that Rachael Taylor will play Patricia “Trish” Walker in the Netflix Jessica Jones series.

The character, also known as Hellcat in the Marvel comics, is described as: a syndicated radio talk show host, former model and child TV star known to her adoring fans as “Patsy” Walker. As Jessica Jones’ closest friend, Trish helps her embark on the most dangerous case of Jessica’s career.

“The character is a star and a powerhouse, and required an actress who is both,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg Rosenberg. “Rachael is all that and more!”

“Rachael’s ability to embody a character that must balance both the darker and lighter elements of our series will provide a perfect emotional anchor for Jessica Jones,” added Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “Rachael blew us away with her grounded, humanizing take on Trish, adding yet another layer to the complex, emotional story we’re telling with this series.”

Taylor, known for Transformers, Grey’s Anatomy, 666 Park Avenue, Charlie’s Angels and Crisis, joins Krysten Stewart (Jessica Jones), David Tennant (Kilgrave) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage).

Hellcat in the comics has mystical powers and was trained in martial arts by both Captain America and Moondragon.

Jessica Jones premiers on Netflix later this year with 13 episodes available immediately to stream and watch.

Synopsis:

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

Mehcad Brooks Cast As Supergirl’s Love Interest Jimmy Olsen

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18925:]]

It’s learned that Mehcad Brooks has been cast as Jimmy Olsen in the CBS Supergirl TV series, with it also said Olsen will be the love interest to Kara Zor-El.

The character will actually apparently be called “James” and not Jimmy, and is described as: an attractive photographer at CatCo, the media company where Kara Zor-El works, as an assistant to Cat Grant. Recently, James has been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret.

Of course, Jimmy Olsen is known for being a co-worker and friend to Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

More than likely the casting of Brooks will come with some controversy, similar to Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch in Fantastic Four, as Jimmy Olsen is white in the comic books.

Mehcad Brooks joins Melissa Benoist who will play Supergirl. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are executive producing, with Berlanti and Adler also penning the pilot.

Brooks is known for roles in Necessary Roughness and Desperate Housewives.

David Tennant Talks Marvel (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18922:]]

Marvel recently announced the casting of David Tennant for the Netflix Jessica Jones series.

Tennant has been named to being playing the villain known as Kilgave.

While not exactly confirmed for Jessica Jones, Kilgrave in the comics is Zebediah Killgrave aka The Purple Man.

Radio Times caught up with Tennant and questioned the actor about Marvel and the character, where you can see in the following video that Tennant happens to be wearing a purple tie.

“I grew up on Marvel comics, so it’s very exciting to be part of their ever expanding entertainment empire,” Tennant said. “It’s great. I love the movies, I love the TV shows that they do, so I’m very pleased to be part of one.

“I grew up an absolute devotee to the worlds of Marvel,” Tennant continued. “So the fact that they’ve expanded now into TV and film is something that I think I sort of fantasized about when I was younger. So now to be part of it, to be on the other side of it is a thrill.

While it’s been said David Tennant will be playing a villain, the former Doctor Who remains coy.

“Who says it’s a villain?” Tennant questioned with a smile. “Make no assumptions. I’m saying nothing. I’ve found myself in another world which I can answer no questions about.”

Watch the video below for more from David Tennant.

“Jessica Jones” stars Krysten Ritter as the titular character and Mike Colter as Luke Cage.

Synopsis:

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

Live-Action X-Men TV Series Being Planned

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18890:]]

Fox is planning a new TV series based on the X-Men.

THR reports that sources have filled them in that Fox is in preliminary conversations to adapt the Marvel Comics’ X-Men comics and feature film franchise, with 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto involved.

It’s also said the live-action X-Men series is being written by the Star Trek 3 writing duo of Patrick McKay and JD Payne.

While Fox owns the film rights to the X-Men, apparently Marvel and Disney would need to sign off, according to the report, which means the deal is far from being done.

It’s unknown if Fox would create a shared movie/TV universe similar to Marvel and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or go a different route such as DC is doing with their separate movie and TV universes.

Fox has Deadpool coming out next February, X-Men: Apocalypse coming out next May and plans for Wolverine 2 and a Gambit movie.

Constantine Ratings Up; Possible Network Move & William Shatner Is A Fan

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18868:]]

Good news for fans of Constantine as yesterday’s episode saw a rise in ratings.

NBC released official stats stating Constantine had its most watched episode last night since the November 21st episode featuring Jim Corrigan and the Spectre.

Though Constantine saw a drop in ratings with last week’s episode, which was the first episode to debut at 8pm ET, yesterday’s rose by around 400,000 viewers.

Last night’s Constantine delivered 3.48 million viewers with a .9 rating, which is up from last week’s 3.06 million and .8 rating.

In addition, NBC announced that Constantine sees a substantial rise in viewers when 7-Day DVR/online-viewing is factored in as viewership rises by more than 1.8 million viewers overall from 3.4 million to 5.3 million.

NBC also stated the coveted 18-49 ratings demographic among advertisers has increased by 79% when time-shifting is factored in.

The bad news is that the long-term DVR/online viewing doesn’t seem to be a big factor with networks as the higher live-viewing numbers are more preferable because of the advertisements. Recently, NBC executives stated Constantine has a big viewership after it airs, but it’s live-viewing “is challenging,” when questioned about a potential for Season 2.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel, though, as showrunner Daniel Cerone recently hinted Constantine could possibly move to another network. Cerone also tweeted he would like to do more episodes of Constantine, with specific mention of the Monkey King, who was named in last night’s episode. Cerone also added if they do get a Season 2, he would like William Shatner to appear in an episode.

Speaking of William Shatner, it’s also learned that the first Captain Kirk is a fan of Constantine, as Shatner live-tweeted last night’s episode, as did Cerone.

Constantine airs Fridays at 8pm ET on NBC starring Matt Ryan, Charles Halford, Angelica Celaya and Harold Perrineau.

Check out some tweets by Daniel Cerone and William Shatner:

Melissa Benoist Cast As Supergirl

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18838:]]

CBS announced that Melissa Benoist has been cast as Supergirl.

Benoist is known for Glee and Whiplash.

Supergirl sees Kara Zor-El, cousin to Superman, having escaped the destruction of Krypton and arriving on Earth where she is taken in by a foster family, the Danvers, who are aware of her super powers and teach her to be careful using them.

The series is further described as:

Now 24, Kara feels un-empowered, a slave to having repressed her innate abilities. She’s still pretty, but with her face hidden behind glasses and her hair pulled back, she doesn’t know it herself. An unexpected disaster forces her to use her powers in public. Energized by her heroic deed, for the first time in her life, Kara begins embracing her extraordinary abilities. She begins helping the people of her city and they soon take notice — and she’s even given a new moniker: Supergirl.

Greg Berlati of Arrow and The Flash will co-write the Supergirl script with Ali Adler, who recently teased a big Supergirl announcement was coming soon.

Though Supergirl is set for CBS, a crossover with Arrow and The Flash hasn’t been ruled out, and actually the Supergirl TV series was created with the potential for all three series to be set in the same universe.

Melissa Benoist follows Grant Gustin, who was also featured in Glee, as the latest superhero in the DC TV universe.

As THR notes, Benoist played the role of a superhero in an episode of Glee as “Woman Fierece” (watch the video below).

Benoist took to Twitter to offer her excitement, and Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin offered congratulations.
