WARNER BROS. TELEVISION TALENT PRESENT COMIC-CON IN A SNAP

 

BURBANK, Calif. (July 19, 2016) — Comic-Con week is here, and on the eve of the world’s biggest comics and pop culture convention, Warner Bros. Television stars are getting ready for the trip to San Diego and sharing their excitement with fans by expressing themselves, Comic-Con style, in a series of fun messages using Snapchat’s popular video filters.

• Using only their mobile phone and a choice of Snapchat filter, some of TV’s favorite stars revealed their inner SDCC selves: whether it’s Kitty Cats, Rainbow Unicorns, Vikings or more. The team at WBTV assembled the brief snaps into one super video.

• Stars snapping include Vanessa Hudgens from Powerless; Jaimie Alexander from Blindspot; Rose McIver, David Anders, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli and Aly Michalka from iZOMBIE; Eliza Taylor from The 100; Camren Bicondova and Chris Chalk from Gotham; Mehcad Brooks and David Harewood from Supergirl; Genesis Rodriguez from Time After Time; Ashleigh Murray and Madelaine Petsch from Riverdale; and Kevin Alejandro from Lucifer.

Doctor Who Tom Baker Joins Star Wars Rebels

The worlds of Doctor Who and Star Wars come together once again as the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, has joined the cast of Star Wars Rebels Season 3.

Tom Baker will play the character Bendu, who is described as the “middle way of the Force” – not Dark Side or Light Side – he’s “something else, a force of nature.”

Star Wars Rebels showrunner David Filoni announced the casting at this past weekend’s Star Wars Celebration offering he specifically created the character of Bendu with Tom Baker in mind.

‘[Bendu is] so unique in everything he does,’ Filoni said, adding that Bendu is “a different kind of Force character/creature than we’ve had before” and will make a “big difference.”

You can get a glimpse of Tom Baker’s character and voice of Bendu in the new Star Wars Rebels Season 3 trailer below (around 1:48 mark).

Dave Filoni, a big Doctor Who fan, also previously cast David Tennant in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 returns this Fall.

The Walking Dead Season Season 7 Reveals Morgan, Comic-Con Banner & Confirms Trailer

It looks as if Morgan is safe in The Walking Dead Season 7, at least for the mean time.

AMC debuted a new image of Lennie James’ character, Morgan, suggesting he meets up with the group from The Kingdom. It’s also being rumored that Ezekiel is being cast, which may set up The Kingdom vs. Negan’s Saviors.

“The exciting thing about season 7 is we’re really opening it up,” EP Greg Nicotero told EW.com. “We started in season 6 by getting a sense that the world was a much larger place. We were laying the seeds for the fact that there is a very big world out there. So, in season 7, we really get a chance to explore those worlds in much greater detail.” 

AMC also has the following Walking Dead banner on display at Comic-Con where interestingly enough Eugene sticks out like a sore thumb. My bet is still on Abraham, but we won’t find out who dies until the first episode of Season 7.

The Walking Dead will be in Hall H at Comic-Con on Friday at 1pm and will release the Season 7 trailer with the following confirmed in attendance: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Chandler Riggs, Michael Cudlitz, Sonequa Martin-Green, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, Josh McDermitt, and producers producers Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, and David Alpert. Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick will moderate the panel.

A new episode of the ’80s He-Man cartoon series is debuting at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Batman, Constantine & More Rumored For DC CW TV Universe

A batch of rumors surrounding the DC TV universe surfaces which includes mention of Batman, Constantine, Batwoman, Oracle and more.

Now that both The Flash and Superman are appearing in both the movie and TV universes (played by different actors; movies and TV are separate universes), it’s possible WB may have relaxed their rules surrounding the sharing of characters. It’s actually a great route to go as WB can take advantage of their popular characters across all forms of media, than say Marvel, which has one big shared universe (but no mention of the TV characters is ever made in the movies).

Regarding Batman, Bleeding Cool is stating that Fox currently has the TV rights, which is tied up with Gotham, but Fox may share the rights for a fee. 

Constantine with Matt Ryan may get revived as part of the CW’s supernatural Friday as The Vampire Diaries is ending, and The CW may want to go with Constantine to fill the horror gap.

Batwoman is said to be appearing in Supergirl with Kathy/Kate Kane being Maggie Sawyer’s ex, whose adventures as Batwoman occasionally take her to National City.

Oracle Barbara Gordon is also said to be coming to Supergirl (though apparently not as Batgirl) where she befriends Kara, and the Oracle/Batwoman relationship/plot is said to resemble Birds of Prey. 

The Flash‘s John Wesley Shipp is said to be another cross-series regular, probably as Jay Garrick (similar deal to Wentworth Miller and John Barrowman).

It’s possible some of these announcements may be made this week at Comic-Con.

Court of Owls Teased For Gotham Season 3

Ahead of next week’s Comic-Con, check out the Court of Owls teaser poster for Gotham Season 3.

It was revealed last Season that Hugo Strange was working with the clandestine group.

“We will dive much more deeply into them in Season 3,” executive producer John Stephens previously told Zap2it. “The Court of Owls, this sort of illuminati group that’s been pulling the strings behind Gotham for centuries and might be the real culprits in the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne, among other things.”

In the comics, the Court of Owls has existed for centuries and would recruit assassins through Haly’s circus, of which Dick Grayson was a part of, but Batman adopted the young Grayson prior to Dick being chosen as a Talon (assassin). 

Gotham Season 3 returns Monday, September 19th on FOX.

The Flash Season 3 Set Image Reveals New Speedsters & Villain

Following the first look image of Kid Flash, now a set image from The Flash Season 3 features Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West in costume as well as the reveal of a potential villain.

A set image features Kid Flash side by side what may be Black Racer from the DC Comics, with a second image featuring Grant Gustin as Barry Allen.

Black Racer, in the comics, is the grim reaper of the DC Comics and the bringer of death. It’s basically his job to collect souls from the dead.

Grant Gustin did tweet out that the main villain of The Flash Season 3 isn’t a metahuman, so technically Black Racer fits the bill.

We did see Black Racer (Black Flash) potentially in the Season 2 finale when Teddy Sears’ Zoom was killed off.

With Barry going back in time and messing with the timeline (Flashpoint), it’s possible the Black Racer could show up to take out all the Speedsters — including Barry and Wally (as they are not supposed to exist in the new timeline).

We may find out more next week as The Flash will be featured at Comic-Con.

Regarding whether or not Zoom plays a role in The Flash Season 3, Tom Cavanagh seemingly teased the character might play some part.

The Flash Season 3 returns Tuesday, October 4th at 8pm ET on The CW.

New X-Men TV Series Headed To Fox With Bryan Singer Attached

A new X-Men TV series is headed to FOX.

Variety reports the untitled X-Men series will be executive produced by Bryan Singer focusing “on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

The new X-Men series, Marvel and Fox’s first, is being written by Burn Notice‘s Matt Nix who will also serve as executive producer in addition to Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

The project has received a put-pilot commitment from Fox, which means if Fox doesn’t air the pilot episode, they’ll pay a hefty monetary penalty to Marvel (so it’s a safe bet the series is a definite go).

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe,” said David Madden, president, entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

“Working with Marvel on a television series for Fox has been a professional dream for our head of development, Michael Thorn, and all of us at the studio,” commented Jonathan Davis, president, creative affairs, 20th Century Fox Television. “Matt, Lauren, Bryan, Simon, Jeph and Jim are a powerhouse team of creative artists, and we can’t wait to get started on what will easily be one of this development season’s most exciting new projects.”

“Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project,” Jeph Loeb said. “Matt’s a huge fan of ‘X-Men’ and his take on ‘X-Men,’ with its rich characters and high-stakes adventure, is exactly the show we want on Fox. It’s a great team of creative producers who will be making something entirely unique.”

The report also mentions the planned Hellfire TV series has been cancelled.

Legion is also set to debut on FX.

Actor John Barrowman has signed a new deal that will see Malcolm Merlyn featured in the DC CW shows Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

TV Line reports Barrowman will continue to appear on Arrow as a regular, but will also appear in the other Greg Berlanti-produced shows, which is similar to Wentworth Miller’s deal as well.

Barrowman previously appeared in a Season 2 episode of The Flash along with the Legends Of Tomorrow.

Stars and creatives from Syfy’s THE MAGICIANS and THE EXPANSE and USA’s MR. ROBOT and COLONY and will appear at panels, while upcoming fall series INCORPORATED (Syfy) and FALLING WATER (USA) will feature exclusive pilot screenings for both shows.

Fans unable to attend Comic-Con in person can tune-in to SYFY PRESENTS LIVE FROM COMIC-CON, hosted by Will Arnett. Syfy’s first-ever live broadcast from Comic-Con will air Thursday, July 21 through Saturday, July 23 at 8/7c from the Marriot Marquis in downtown San Diego.
