Loki Lives: Tom Hiddleston Teases Return in Avengers: Doomsday

Tom Hiddleston is one of the twenty-seven actors Marvel Studios confirmed to be a part of the giant cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

The return of Loki is somewhat of a surprise as it was thought Hiddleston might have finished the role with Loki Season 2. However, you can’t keep a good trickster down for very long.

“It’s not over yet”

Hiddleston appeared recently at the Olivier Awards and was asked about Avengers: Doomsday.

Very, very excited,” Hiddleston said. “It’s really remarkable, actually, that I can talk about it because mostly I’m in a position of knowing and not being able to say anything.”

The actor was asked what is that like?

It’s strange, you know you have to be disciplined about carrying this secret around,” Hiddleston responded. “It’s been an extraordinary chapter in my life playing Loki, and it’s not over yet.”

The last we saw of Loki

The last we saw of Loki was at the end of Loki Season 2, where he made the ultimate sacrifice to save the multiverse. After countless failed attempts to fix the Temporal Loom and prevent the collapse of all timelines, Loki realized there was only one way forward—he had to take control of the chaos himself.

In a powerful moment, Loki embraced his destiny and transformed into the God of Stories, sitting alone on a throne at the center of time, holding together the multiverse like the roots and branches of a great tree.

Marvel's Big Announcement Live: Avengers: Doomsday Cast Revealed?

How does it fit with Avengers: Doomsday?

While plot details are unknown, Avengers: Doomsday is in part an adaptation of the Secret Wars stories from the Marvel Comics. The most recent story released in 2015 saw The Beyonders attempt to destroy the Multiverse. If something similar happens in the MCU, they might have to go through Loki to finish the job.

The story also sees Doctor Doom steal the powers of The Beyonders and create Battleworld, a patchwork planet formed from the remnants of destroyed universes — so a Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom battle vs Tom Hiddleston’s Loki could also be in the works. Check out the recently leaked set video for more.

Release info:

Avengers: Doomsday gets released on May 1, 2026. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing.
