Thunderbolts Not Canceled? Films In March Or April

Thunderbolts might not be canceled after all as Wyatt Russell says Marvel is going to start filming in March or April.

Rumors claim that Thunderbolts is getting the ax due to all the problems at Marvel, and the movie is said to be one of them.

It has been announced the flick has a new writer, so perhaps Marvel is attempting to fix whatever could be the issue with the film.

Wyatt Russell offers filming update

The Thunderbolts filming update from Wyatt Russell comes via THR as the actor stars in Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The site questioned the actor if his character, John Walker, still has a long way to go before he’s redeemed in the MCU.

“I hope so. There’s so much to play with John, and there’s so much more to do with John,” he said.

Russell continued by mentioning they’ll start in March or April, but he says he doesn’t know specific dates.

“I’m so lucky to get to work with the kind of talent that I’m going to work with when Thunderbolts starts up in March or April,” he said. “I don’t know when they’re starting yet, but Sebastian Stan is a great friend and you couldn’t ask for a better actor.”

Russell talked about working with his fellow Marvel actors and also confirmed Steven Yeun is in the movie (said to be The Sentry) which follows Robert Kirkman first leaking the news.

“Florence Pugh is one of the best actresses in the world right now, and she’s one of my personal favorite actresses in the world. David Harbour. Steven Yeun is one of the better actors in the world right now,” he said. “You’ve got all of these people in this movie, and I couldn’t feel luckier.”

Looking forward to working with Jake Schreier again

Thunderbolts is also being directed by Jake Schreier who worked on Lodge 49 with Russell (and Beef with Yeun).

“And speaking of Lodge 49, Jake Schreier is the [Thunderbolts] director, and we worked together on six episodes of Lodge. So it just feels like we’re going for something that has depth and something interesting to theorize about beyond just flying around and doing superhero stuff,” said Russell.

Russell continued, “That’s awesome and cool, and it’ll be in there, too, obviously, but I’m hoping to do what we’ve done with Godzilla. There’s a human element to this and those characters. They’re hard stories to write and do, but if you work hard enough and you really put your heart and soul into it, you can always make them great. So I’m really looking forward to working hard and having a blast. They’re so fun when you let them be fun, and I could not be more excited.”

Thunderbolts has a July 25, 2025 release date. Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, the new Black Widow; Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier; Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent; Olga Kurilenko as Taskmaster; David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Hannah John-Kamen returns as Ghost, with Harrison Ford also rumored as Red Hulk from Captain America: Brave New World.
