It’s claimed that Marvel Studios is developing Thor 5 which might have Taika Waititi return as director who directed Love and Thunder and Ragnarok.
The rumor comes via MyTimeToShineHellow via Twitter.
“Thor 5 is in development at Marvel Studios. Unfortunately there is a good chance Taika Waititi will return to direct but it is NOT a done deal. I’d like to see someone like Sam Hargrave doing it, he’ll make a badass Thor movie,” states the tweet.
Update: Variety says no Thor 5 is in development.

Thor 5 needs a strong villain says Taika Waititi
Taika Waititi actually recently addressed Thor 5 in the Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special and said Thor needs a villain as strong as Hela.
“What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome,” he said. “I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”
Goofy Thor needs to go
Thor: Love and Thunder happened to feature a strong villain with Gorr the God Butcher, but Waititi butchered the character in the film compared to the comics, and the goofy approach is something that Chris Hemsworth says needs to go.
Hemsworth previously seemed to hint he didn’t want to work with Waititi again when he said he doesn’t want to work with any more “mad” geniuses, which also might include George Miller who directed him in Furiosa and said if he returns to the character it needs to be with a new approach.
“You look at Thor 1 and 2, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it,” explained the actor. “I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested.”
Hemsworth continued, “I’ve said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I’m doing. I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity [laughs]. Thor lost his mind in that last one. He’s got to figure it out now.”
Taika Waititi done with Thor and Star Wars?
It’s also rumored that Taika Waititi might not be doing Thor 5 due to how badly Love and Thunder was received. Disney CEO Bob Iger also recently said Disney is pulling back on Star Wars and questioned if there needed to be so many Marvel movie sequels.
It’s also speculated Waititi might not be doing his Star Wars movie due to the blunder of Love and Thunder, much like what happened with Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman 1984 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
