Lionsgate officially sent out word that The Crow reboot is now on digital and on demand, which comes only three weeks after the theatrical release and a massively disappointing $21 million box office.
âBill SkarsgĂ„rd takes on the iconic role of The Crow in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James OâBarr,â teases Lionsgate.
The film follows soulmates Eric (SkarsgÄrd) and Shelly (FKA twigs) who are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.
The Crow opened Aug. 23 to only $4.6M at the box office and would drop -60.9% in its second weekend and -92.8% in its third weekend. Domestically, the flick brought in under $10 million and around $11.8 million from foreign grosses.

The Crow Rotten Tomatoes Score is only at a 23% âRotten,â and the verified Popcornmeter fan score is at 64%, likely much lower if Rotten Tomatoes didnât ditch the Audience Score as only Fandango ticket purchasers reviews count and not anybody they bought tickets for or those who bought tickets at the movie theaters or other online retailers.

Original director says reboot shouldnât have been made
Alex Proyas, the director of the original which starred Brandon Lee, also roasted the reboot after its big box office flop.
âI thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems,â Proyas said on Facebook.
As Variety noted, Proyas has also been sharing negative reviews of the reboot. One review called The Crow reboot âthe worst movie of the year,â to which Proyas wrote: âThe review weâve all been waiting for. Itâs a bit like flogging a dead horse now so I think Iâll stop after thisâŠuntil another funny one comes along.â
In March, he also said the reboot shouldnât have been made.
âI really donât get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And Iâm certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fanâs response speaks volumes,â Proyas wrote. âTHE CROW is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. Thatâs how it should remain.â
