Dolph Lundgren Joins Arrow Season 5

Dolph Lundgren is joining Arrow Season 5.

Lundgren, known for Rocky and the Expendables, will be playing a new villain in the series.

“In our flashbacks in Russia — we’re set in Russia this season — we are going to be bringing in Dolph Lundgren as one of our big bads,” executive producer Wendy Mericle revealed at today’s Television Critics Association’s press tour.

Dolph Lundgren’s character was first mentioned at the end of last season when Tiana referred to the Russian villain Kovar.

“He is somebody we heard about in season 4,” Mericle told EW. “Kovar. We are going to bring him in and he’s going to be this super big badass guy who works for the Russian government, and is not a friend of Oliver or the Bratva. It’s part of Oliver’s promise to Taiana at the end of season 4, and it’s going to be interesting because it’s going to get complicated and very messed up very fast.”

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim also revealed Arrow Season 5 will be the final year of flashbacks.

“We always said that Oliver had a five-year journey when he was marooned on the [island],” he said. “This year, Oliver spends his time in the flashbacks in Russia. We know from various seeds we planted back in the pilot that he knows how to speak Russian, he became a Bratva captain. Sort of the flashback story in the first half of the year is going to involve Oliver’s introduction into the Bratva.”

Some details on the Arrow Season 5 plot are also made known that connects the past and present.

“[Oliver is] basically recruited into this crime organization, while at the same time in the present day, Oliver has recruits of his own,” Guggenheim said. “[Oliver is] a trainee in the past, trainer in the present, and I think that will give the audience the connect-up thematically between present in the past.”

“Arrow” returns this October on The CW starring Stephen Amell.

The Flash Season 3 Flashpoint Could Affect Arrow; Also Cool Fan Art

The Flash Season 3 kicks off with a bang this October with “Flashpoint,” which is the title of the first episode.

The Season 2 finale saw Barry travel back in to to save his mother from being killed by the Reverse Flash.

Fans of the Flasphpoint DC Comics storyline know when Barry saved his mom in the comics, it caused all sorts of changes to the timeline.

We don’t know how much of the CW DC TV universe will be affected, but recently Stephen Amell said it could affect Arrow.

“That’s sick, that’s really cool,” Amell said about the Flashpoint title for the first episode of The Flash while on Facebook live.

Amell then offered the timeline changes could affect Arrow Season 5 down the line.

“Don’t know. Certainly could,” Amell hinted.

Tom Cavanagh also may have teased that his character becomes Zoom.

Grant Gustin also previously stated their Flashpoint story will be different than the comics: “We’re definitely doing this [Flashpoint] thing our own way. I’ve read Flashpoint, I’ve seen the amazing animated film. This will be its own thing.”

Check out a cool piece of Flashpoint fan art above as well, from Boss Logic.

“The Flash” Season 3 premiers Tuesday, October 4th at 8pm ET on the CW.

Stephen Amell Teases Arrow Season 5 & Villain Details Become Known

While Arrow Season 4 was uber disappointing, the good news is that the show sounds like it is going back to its roots with Season 5.

DC All Access caught up with Stephen Amell who offered:

The only thing that I can tease is that it’s only a villain we could do if we were in Season 5 of a show because it calls back to what has happened in yesteryear or yester-season as the case may be…

Of course everything is going to change. If you seen the finale, you know there is going to be a whole element for me professionally that we really haven’t seen yet, and we have been in this cycle of introducing shows for a couple of years now. Obviously Supergirl is coming to the network, but we don’t have to introduce Supergirl. I think we are going to focus a lot on just getting back to some of the stuff that Arrow does really well.

TV Line also has additional info on the villain of Arrow Season 5:

• It’s said the new villain will be loosely inspired by Idris Elba’s Wire drug kingpin Stringer Bell.

• The character is tentatively named “Anton Church,” described as: “a ruthless crime lord who sets out to fill the sizable void left by Damien Darhk and H.I.V.E.”

• The casting notice describes him as an “apex predator” who “cuts his way through the shadows” by taking down “the biggest threat first.”

• Stephen Amell also said the villain won’t have super powers.

Willa Holland Confirms Arrow Character Deaths Because of DC Movies

Willa Holland and Katrina Law appeared at the recent MCM London Comic-Con where they confirmed character deaths on Arrow are a result of the DC movies.

Holland and Law confirmed the Suicide Squad character deaths in Arrow were a result of the movie, and it’s heavily speculated the same applies to the recent death of Black Canary in the series as well. It’s also been said Atom was used instead of Blue Beetle because of potential movie plans.

Holland and Law also make comments that they think both Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin would have killed it in the DC movie universe if allowed to play their respective characters of Green Arrow and The Flash.

Watch the video below for more.

Holland offered:

When DC found out they were going to be doing their own movie we had to axe all of the characters before we even got to show them.

It was annoying at first and then when Stephen found out there was going to be a Justice League movie it only seemed, rightly so, he would be playing Green Arrow on it as well as Grant playing the Flash. It just seemed like the right normal answer.

Once they said no, you can’t really fight against them for it, because they are the people that gave us a job in the first place.

You just have to sit there on your hands, like okay, I get it!”

Stephen Amell Hints Green Arrow Is Headed To The DC Movie Universe Minus Him

Will see see a different Green Arrow in the DCEU than on TV?

It’s definitely possible, especially considering Zack Snyder cast a different actor for the Justice League movie Flash.

And it’s already known the Arrow Suicide Squad characters, and most likely Black Canary, were killed off to pave way for the characters to appear in the DC movies.

Now while appearing on Larry King, Arrow star Stephen Amell seemingly hints the same path might be set for his character as well.

Stephen Amell makes it known there are no present plans for Green Arrow in the DC movie universe, but says if there were, they probably wouldn’t include him. Amell then makes note “but things change,” which obviously suggests Green Arrow may eventually appear on the silver screen at some point minus his involvement.

Watch the video below for yourself especially paying attention to that last remark, “but things change,” that comes of rather skeptical.

Here’s the text:

“Well, I mean it has become easier to take properties on television and turn them into films, but I don’t know, those are things that exist out…” Amell said, with Larry King interrupting that Grant Gustin wasn’t cast as the movie Flash.

“No. The cinematic universe and the television universe are separate,” Amell responded.

Larry King then remarked that Amell might not be cast if there was a movie.

“I might not be. I’ve spoken with people within DC, and they said there’s no plan to bring the Green Arrow character to the cinematic universe,’  Amell said, and then added, with a seemingly skeptical, “But things change.”

It should be noted Arrow is returning for a Season 5, so it’s not like the series is getting cancelled. Similar to The Flash TV series, it’s possible both the TV and movie versions could run concurrently; however, would Stephen Amell be down with that and another actor playing the role of Oliver Queen and Green Arrow?

Stephen Amell Responds To Being Called An F’n Idiot Over Arrow Season 4

It might be a good thing that Memorial Day weekend is here, so we can all have a few Stone Colds and let loose some steam.

This past week has seen the internet become a powder keg due to various events, including Captain America and even the Arrow Season 4 finale, which saw Oliver’s friends leave except for Felicity, who many fans can’t stand (it probably didn’t help that Felicity “told the fans” she isn’t going anywhere).

A fan took to Stephen Amell’s Facebook page to blast the actor for reported hypocritical remarks, which has caused Amell to respond.

Amell’s remarks/meme:

The fan’s response to those remarks:

Amell with all due respect this is hypocritical and asinine at it’s best, I’ve watched Arrow since it’s pilot, watched countless reruns on Netflix and have defended the show when nobody or very few of the fans would, then you say the ONE thing that’s killed this show and that the ONE thing fans have hated since S3 we have to LIKE in order to be fans of the show? Or just to watch Arrow? Sorry Sir but you’re a f–king idiot

Stephen Amell’s response:

I disagree. For starters, I wasn’t responding to the dislike of one particular thing on the show. I was discussing one platform and how anonymity makes people cyber brave. You don’t have to like or dislike any one thing to be a fan of the show. But some of the criticism and vitriol towards fictional characters and the actual people who play them is comically outsized. I do enjoy an apology though before being called a fucking idiot. And because you put your name on it… I give it serious consideration. Hope you can see my comments in the broader context Jacob.
