Matt and Ross Duffer will return to helm Stranger Things 2, which will take place a year after the first season, in 1984.

The first season of Stranger Things saw a young boy disappear in a small town in Indiana.

Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, with the first season available in its entirety on Netflix.

Young Justice Season 3 Meeting Said To Have Taken Place, But Not With Peter David

A couple of days ago saw news hit that Peter David was approached by Netflix for Young Justice Season 3.

Cosmic Book News reported on it, which went viral, reaching over half a million people on our social networks alone.

It’s safe to say that a lot of fans want a Young Justice Season 3.

Following our reporting on the subject, Young Justice creator Greg Weisman tweeted out it’s not true, and that Peter David was misquoted, which Peter David followed up with a tweet of his own.

Now Peter David has taken to his blog to post about the mix-up noting he had lunch with Greg Weisman a few weeks ago — not with Netflix. It’s possible the fan may have mixed up mention of Greg Weisman as being an official representative of Netflix.

Here’s what Peter David had to say on the matter:

“Mr. David, what are the chances of ‘Young Justice’ getting a third season?”

“Well, I had lunch with Greg Weisman a few weeks ago, and he said that Netflix is seriously considering ordering a third season because they’re impressed with how much people are watching it. So if you want to make it happen, keep on doing that.”

That’s what I’ve been saying for the past month, countless times, ever since I had lunch with Greg before San Diego. Seems pretty straightforward.

And suddenly I’ve been getting barraged with tweets and emails from fans asking me if it’s true that I’ve had a meeting with Netflix about writing the third season. Why? Because someone asked me the question at the recent Terrificon in Connecticut and, rather than report the answer I’ve given at least a hundred times, he instead provided his own version. I’ve no doubt it was an innocent mistake, but it’s caused a MAJOR headache for me.

Furthermore I’m now worried it could do damage to the cause, because people might think, “We did it! There’s gonna be a third season, done deal!” and then stop watching. Which would then cause Netflix to say, “Hunh, people have stopped watching, guess it was just a passing fad,” and that’s that.

So I will say it once more: It is NOT a done deal. So continue watching “Young Justice” if you want to have a hope of a third season.

PAD

Obviously there seems to be confusion regarding who said what, but what holds true is that Young Justice Season 3 is not green lit and to continue watching season 1 and 2 on Netflix.

Interestingly enough, one of Greg Weisman’s tweets did confirm some sort of meeting did take place with Netflix about Young Justice Season 3, which may be where the mix-up occurred (and not with Peter David’s involvement).

Netflix Lists Punisher Series For 2017 Release

It looks as if Netflix may be releasing the Punisher series in 2017, which means possibly three Marvel shows for that year.

Netflix updated their queue which says Marvel’s The Punisher comes out in 2017 and included as the description: “After the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he’ll become known as The Punisher.”

It is possible the Punisher information is simply a placeholder (see below); so the release date may change.

Jon Bernthal stars as The Punisher, with with Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series’ first two episodes.

The other two Marvel series slated for 2017 on Netflix include Iron Fist and The Defenders; however, The Defenders is only getting eight episodes (compared to thirteen) as it’s more of an event series that sees the characters from the other shows teaming up in Avengers-like fashion.

Marvel and Netflix also have Luke Cage debuting Friday, September 30th.

A Daredevil Season 3 and Jessica Jones Season 2 is in the works as well, which look to be released in 2018.

No Marvel Marvel Movie & TV Crossover Because Of Marvel Creative Committee

Fans have been asking (begging?) for their favorite television personalities to appear in the Marvel movies.

While you may have heard the reason being that the Marvel TV and movies schedules don’t sync up, the real reason is because of the Marvel Creative Committee.

The Marvel Creative Committee consists of Marvel CEO billionaire Ike Perlmutter’s boy’s club of: Alan Fine, who came with Perlmutter to Marvel through Toy Biz; Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Michael Bendis, Marvel Comics publisher Dan Buckley, and Joe Quesada, the former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and the current Chief Creative Officer of Marvel.

To add to that they are all good buddies with head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb.

Long story short, last year saw Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige part ways with both Perlmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee over interference in the movies and creative differences. Captain America and Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo stated the following back in May:

“We’ve been on that [Marvel] journey from Winter Soldier, and it may have been some story points from Civil War that caused the civil war within Marvel. I think that there were years when Kevin was absorbing the pain inflicted on the company. [Marvel Studios is] much healthier, happier” [and is paving the way for] “really compelling choices.”

Regarding the crossover between Marvel Studios and TV not happening, head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb recently appeared on Nerdist’s Comic Book Club podcast where he was asked about The Defenders appearing in the movies with mention there’s friction because of the Marvel Creative Committee. Via reddit:

When asked if The Defenders would be in the movies, he scoffed and went on and on about how Marvel Television is a 3 year old company and how they want to do their own thing, but specifically mentioned that they’ll see where the company is in 2019.

He then mentioned that Marvel Television projects are still all under the thumb of the Marvel Creative Committee, so that could also cause some friction between the possibility of television and movie crossovers.

Adding in my own two cents, if you have been a fan of this website or any of the Marvel COSMIC comic books, you know the Marvel Creative Committee aren’t fans of COSMIC-type stories. With the upcoming Marvel Studios movies looking like they’re heavy cosmic flicks (Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers 4, Inhumans, rumored Richard Rider Nova movie), it’s no wonder Feige booted them from being involved (in addition to whatever trouble they caused).

It’s also apparent the Marvel Creative Committee and Marvel TV like to use their comic book creator-driven work as: Agents Of SHIELD is heavily influenced by the Bendis comics; Netflix is heavily influenced by Quesada’s favorites, and Jeph Loeb went so far as to cancel the 2007 Nova comic book and replace the character he now uses in his animated TV series. There’s also the fact that Bendis cancelled and took over the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series when word of the movie getting green lit became known (and fired the writers on the Nova and GOTG comics that inspired the movie and new billion dollar Disney franchise).

It also recently became known that Kevin Feige is introducing the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse in Doctor Strange. Is Kevin Feige going to make Marvel TV a part of the multiverse and directly disconnect it from the movies, which would enable Feige to use the same characters, but with different actors?

First Three Luke Cage Episode Titles Revealed; Named After Gang Starr Songs

Marvel TV has released the first three episode titles for the Netflix Luke Cage series.

It’s also learned the episode titles for Luke Cage are all named after Gang Starr songs (via HT).

Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker revealed the titles to the first three on Twitter: “One ‘Moment of Truth.’ Two: ‘Code of The Streets.’ Three: ‘Who’s Gonna Take The Weight?'”

Gang Starr was an East Coast hip hop duo founded in Boston that consisted of DJ Premier and the late MC Guru who performed from 1986-2006.

Daredevil Season 3, Punisher & Jessica Jones Season 2 Arriving In 2018

For fans of the Marvel Netflix shows, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, you are going to have to wait a bit for new episodes as it’s learned Daredevil Season 3 and Jessica Jones Season 2 will be arriving in 2018 along with the Jon Bernthal Punisher series.

Update: Netflix has updated their queue stating Punisher in 2017.

The good news is that while you wait, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders will be filling the gap.

At the TCA press tour, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed the Marvel Netflix series wouldn’t arrive on Netflix until at least 2018.

Sarandos also confirmed Luke Cage premiers September 30th, and that both Iron Fist and Defenders debut on Netflix in 2017.

The new keeps with Netflix’s schedule of airing two Marvel series per year, which may mean Punisher may not hit until 2019 or that Netflix may break from doing two Marvel series and go with three.

It’s also reported that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher may turn up in Defenders. Bernthal also appeared at Comic-Con during the recent Marvel TV Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders panel.

Netflix Not Picking Up Agent Carter: Here’s Why

With Marvel TV already having five series on Netflix (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders), and with ABC recently cancelling Agent Carter, some have thought it a good idea that Agent Carter could be renewed over at Netflix.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos explained to EW.com why Agent Carter won’t be coming to their streaming service.

“We’re looking for truly original brands to own,” Sarandos said. “And in that Marvel space we already have [original comic book shows] – so that was mostly why.”

Sarandos also offered it’s about legal matters, such as distribution, than not liking the Agent Carter product.

“They also have some output deal complexities,” Sarando added. “So when you pick it up, being able to pick it up globally is difficult even after it’s canceled. Some of those output partners still had it on the air, so they would argue its covered by their output [deals]. Unfortunately, it was a business decision more than a creative one.”

While ABC did cancel Agent Carter, the good news is that if you are a Hayley Atwell fan, she can still be seen on ABC in her new series, Conviction.
