Marvel Comics Announces International Iron Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22655:]]

MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN #1
Iron Man goes global from Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev

All-new series to be translated to reflect the languages of select countries worldwide

In 2016, Tony Stark is establishing the entire world his base of operations and taking Iron Man internationally with the help of Brian Michael Bendis (Invincible Iron Man, Daredevil) and Alex Maleev (Daredevil, Moon Knight) in the all-new Marvel series, INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN.

As technology and globalization continue to reduce the size of the world stage, Marvel continues to reflect the world outside our windows and brings the “Golden Avenger” to defend the globe.  “I think we all, no matter where we are in our lives, feel that the world has gotten much smaller,” said Bendis while speaking with Entertainment Weekly. “We can all reach out to each other no matter where we are in the world. We feel each other’s pains and victories. I think for Tony it’s like that times 100. He’s much more aware of the global situation and how a big fight with Galactus in New York would affect things in other parts of the world.”

Tony Stark is a futurist. He anticipates threats to come and plans for them. That mentality is what leads Tony to take Iron Man out of New York and proactively taking on threats across the globe.  “If I was a villain, New York is the last place I’d attack, because you know, just by math, there are 700 superheroes in a 17-block radius. I’d go anywhere else,” explains Bendis. “We’ll be dealing with some of the criminals in the Marvel Universe who are smart enough to put that together in their head finally. Tony’s gonna be racing to help people that don’t necessarily always get the attention of the Marvel superheroes.”

Accompanying Iron Man on his new global – an unlikely partner who knows everything there is to know about the dark underbelly of the Marvel Universe – Doctor Doom! “Doom knows where the bodies are buried…he knows a lot of stuff that Tony doesn’t know.”

Additionally, not only will Iron Man reach out worldwide, but so will the actual published comic book. Working with a number of Marvel licensees, INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN will be translated into the respected languages of 25 different countries and will be printed for over 40 different countries in English.

Strap in and suit up, True Believers. Coming in early 2016, Bendis and Maleev reunite for an armored adventure that establishes Iron Man as global advisory for all of those who stand against him in the Marvel Universe. Don’t miss the blockbuster INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN #1!

At the expo, guests will experience the history of Stark Industries through inventions by the company’s founder, Howard Stark, and into the present day, where Tony Stark is inspiring his team of scientists and engineers to make our lives better, more convenient and safer through technology.

Bendis On Iron Man For Marvel Fall Reboot

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20890:]]

Today at the Special Edition: NYC comic book festival, Marvel announced that come their Fall reboot, Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez will be on Invincible Iron Man.

The above teaser image was released.

It’s also learned that following in footsteps of the Marvel Studios movies, Marvel Comics is re-positioning Iron Man to be most prominent character in the “All-New All Different” comic book line.

Marvel’s Tom Brevoort told Newsarama the following about Iron Man taking over the reins from Spider-Man:

I think Iron Man’s prominence is something pretty much everybody who encounters Marvel in every other medium already knows. While the masked head of Spider-Man has historically been most associated with Marvel as a defacto mascot, in the last ten years in every field outside of publishing Iron Man is Marvel Comics. If you’re talking about the people who see the films, buy the t-shirts or merchandise, watch the television shows, it all comes back to Shellhead. We’re going to make a concerted effort with All-New All-Different Marvel to make Iron Man the forefront of the comic books’ universe as it is elsewhere.

The Iron Man movie was the spine that the Marvel Cinematic Universe grew out of it. Once you look globally, Iron Man the character is Marvel’s Mickey Mouse. I Hate to put it that way, but no disrespect to Mickey. When people think of Marvel and not steeped in our world of comic books, they think of Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man.

Marvel recently announced plans for their Fall reboot/relaunch which will include 55-60 new #1 titles, and released two teaser images.

Captain America: Civil War Iron Man Promo Art

A second piece of promo/concept art for Captain America: Civil War has hit the net featuring the Iron Man armor.

It appears as if Marvel is moving closer to the Iron Man Bleeding Edge armor from the comics, which The Avengers 2 suit also resembles. The Bleeding Edge armor, in the comics, is kept inside Tony’s body using nano-tech and is one of Tony’s most powerful suits ever – even enabling Iron Man to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Thor and the Red Hulk.

The previous Captain America 3 concept art featured Captain America vs. Iron Man.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

With The Avengers 2 due out this Friday, now seems like a good idea to recap the Marvel movies.

Check out the Marvel Cinematic Universe Tribute via the gang over at JoBlo.

Can you believe it’s been seven years since the first Iron Man came out?!

A special mashup tribute that is dedicated to the massive cinematic universe of Marvel Studios in honor of the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. Seven years have passed since Robert Downey Jr. donned the famous Iron Man armor in the first of many planned films in the franchise. It was a lot of risk to get to where they are today but the reward was very much worth it.

Next came Edward Norton & Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanova. All these great characters/actors came together to form the Avengers along with countless talented writers and directors such as Joss Whedon, Jon Favreau, Kenneth Branagh, Anthony & Joe Russo and many more.

Marvel Studios Being Sued Over Iron Man Movie Design

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20224:]]

A lawsuit has been filed against Disney and Marvel Studios claiming copyright infringement and unfair and deceptive trade practices over the look of the Iron Man movie designs.

The Wrap reports two brothers, Ben and Ray Lai, are claiming Marvel has infringed on the designs of their Radix comic, as much like the movie version of Iron Man, the characters in Radix wear “highly detailed, mechanized suits of body armor.”

Note: Back when Iron Man 3 was released, the brothers filed a cease-and-desist letter with Disney over promotional material.

The gist of the current lawsuit contends that Ben and Ray Lai created Radix in 2001 and then were hired by Marvel a year later “to work as artists on its various comic book franchises.” The brothers claim the comic book version of Iron Man was simpler prior to their Marvel involvement and are claiming Marvel nabbed their idea from Radix for the upgrade.

The comics “typically depicted Iron Man wearing simple spandex-like attire and minimal armor,” the lawsuit reads, where the movie franchise depicts Iron Man “wearing a fully mechanized suit of armor” which becomes increasingly complex over the span of the films.

The lawsuit continues arguing: “In the films, Iron Man is depicted wearing mechanized body armor that appropriates the copyrighted artistic work of the Plaintiff without authorization or attribution.”

And also: “The plot of each Iron Man film centers on the protagonist as he creates and builds increasingly powerful and futuristic versions of this body armor … that allow him to fly, shoot projectiles, and perform other superhuman feats.”

In addition to the claim of copyright infringement, the lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages and a permanent injunction barring further alleged copyright infringement.

You can read the lawsuit here.

Browsing the various Iron Man comic designs, it appears as if the Iron Man comic went with a more modern version of Iron Man around 1994-99, which was up to eight years prior to the two brothers having worked at Marvel, and something the lawsuit omits as part of its exhibit “A.”

The Prometheum armor in Heroes Reborn from 1996 seems to be the genesis of the modern day Iron Man:

Watch: Robert Downey Jr. Walks Out On Interview

This is a big-time a-hole move on the part of the interviewer.

Watch above as Robert Downey Jr. participates in an interview promoting The Avengers 2.

The interviewer mentions RDJ is here to promote the movie, but then asks if he can ask about RDJ personally.

We see that RDJ gets rather uncomfortable and looks over to (whom I am guessing) is his publicist or PR person (who should have stopped the interview right there).

RDJ replies to the interviewer he has as much time as anyone, with the interviewer remarking they have 3 minutes left on their agreed upon time allotment.

The interviewer then asks Robert Downey Jr. about his past with drugs and alcohol – and asks if he is free of all of that.

The camera even zooms in on RDJ’s face as we see RDJ getting obviously more and more uncomfortable.

Robert Downey Jr. then questions – “what are we doing?” – and ends the interview.

It is a rather d— move on the part of the interviewer. Sure, you can argue he can ask whatever he wants, but these type of interviews are set-up beforehand and used for promotional purposes. We even see the interviewer mention the purpose of the interview is for promoting the movie, and they had a specified amount of time. Notice how the cameraman recognizes how uncomfortable RDJ is getting as he zooms in on his face at that moment? I believe the interviewer is known for being a d—-bag and had run-ins with Tarantino and Godfrey Bloom; RDJ and his people maybe should have skipped this guy.

The interviewer, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, does, however, claim on Twitter they discussed the questioning with RDJ’s PR people stating, “We’d told the PR we’d like to talk about the movie and his life.”

Obviously “life” could mean a whole hell of a lot.

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as Vision, with James Spader as Ultron.

Marvel Phase 2 Contains Same Star Wars Easter Eggs

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20174:]]

It seems just about everyone missed this one as Kevin Feige has let it be known he included the same Star Wars Easter Egg in each of the Marvel Phase 2 movies.

Speaking with CinemaBlend, Feige said he is a big Star Wars fan and offered:

So is this a spoiler for Ant-Man… not really. I’m obsessed with Star Wars. Who’s not? I’m 40 years old. I’m in the movie business. I went to USC. So I’m obsessed with Star Wars – and it didn’t start out as intentional, but it became intentional, including that beat that you referenced. It sort of happens in every Star Wars movie, but I was sort of looking at it, ‘Okay, is Phase Two our Empire Strikes Back?’ Not really, but tonally things are a little different. Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every single one.

Regarding the Easter Eggs:

Iron Man 3 featured Guy Pearce’s character, Aldrich Killian, getting his arm cut off by Tony Stark when he heats up Iron Man’s suit and the end of the movie.

Thor 2 features Thor getting his arm “cut off” by Loki.

Captain America 2 features a flashback where Bucky had his own arm cut off when he fell from the train in Captain America: The First Avenger.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy also had a similar Star Wars Easter Egg with Gamora cutting Groot’s arm off (this might be the enigmatic Easter Egg Gunn keeps referring to that he says everyone missed).

Those are the Star Wars Easter Eggs known to date as The Avengers 2 is yet to be released – so be on the look out for someone getting their arm cut off just like Luke Skywalker from Empire Strikes Back.

Alien Nation Remake In Development From Iron Man Writers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19817:]]

It’s reported the 1980s science-fiction movie that was produced by The Walking Dead‘s Gale Anne Hurd, Alien Nation, is getting a remake at Fox.

THR reports Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are writing the script.

It’s said the new Alien Nation remake will begin by telling how and why the aliens came to Earth, and it’s said the Alien Nation remake will be a similar reimagining to what Fox did with the Planet of the Apes franchise.

The Alien Nation movie debuted in 1988 and spawned a one-season TV series in addition to TV movies that centered around two cops – one human and the other alien – as they dealt with the integration of the alien society, The Newcomers, in future Los Angeles.

Robert Downey Jr. Posts Iron Man Action Figures On Facebook

Check out the image that Robert Downey Jr. posted on Facebook.

Guess we could call it Robert Downey’s Iron Legion as it features a Tony Stark action figure surrounded by the different Iron Man action figures from the previous movies.

It looks like RDJ needs to add the new Iron man suit and the Hulbuster armor from Avengers 2.

Cool pic!

In the middle we see the Iron Patriot armor. Wouldn’t it be wild, with Marvel and Sony sharing Spider-Man, that Norman Osborn dons the suit one day? Leading to the Dark Avengers (Sentry! Ares!)?
