Marvel’s Netflix Defenders Films This Year

While it was just learned Daredevil won’t be appearing in any Marvel movies, who needs them when you have the Defenders?

The Defenders is Marvel TV’s version of The Avengers featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.

Now it’s learned Marvel will start filming the Defenders later this year.

Charlie Cox offered the news at a Netflix presentation in Paris.

“What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome,” Cox said, reports the UK’s Independent. “I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.”

Cox also offered Daredevil Season 3 is presently up in the air: “We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three. I certainly don’t know. In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”

In addition to Charlie Cox as Daredevil, The Defenders will feature Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage and newly announced Finn Jones as Iron Fist.

Charlie Cox Confirms No Daredevil In Marvel Movies

For fans hoping to see Daredevil side-by-side the Avengers or even Spider-Man, here is more evidence that it isn’t happening any time soon, if at all.

Charlie Cox again rules out an appearance in the Marvel movies.

“There was no conversation about joining any of the movies,” Cox said, reports CNet, though the Daredevil actor did state he would like to appear. “Who wouldn’t want to be in the highest grossing film of all time?”

Charlie Cox previously even questioned if the Marvel movies and Marvel TV existed in the same universe, which goes to show just how separate the two studios really are.

“Yeah. That would be the coolest thing ever. Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things,” said Cox. “Even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would appear in that film. I will pick a fight with the guy that they choose!… So that would be a dream, but that’s not something that has been discussed.”

Likewise, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently said the same.

“There is Marvel TV who is pretty disconnected from Marvel Film, which is owned by Disney, and that’s really not connected at all,” Gunn said.

So why all the bad blood?

It’s been reported eccentric Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter is to blame as he butted heads with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige over various strategies and policies. Most recently saw it reported that Feige had parted ways with Perlmutter and Perlmutter’s comic/TV crew consisting of Joe Quesda, Brian Bendis and Jeph Loeb.

Mike Colter Talks Luke Cage At Wizard World St. Louis

Luke Cage Mike Colter recently attended Wizard World in St. Louis where he spoke about the new upcoming Marvel Netflix series.

“He’s going to do a lot of badass stuff! Prepare for badassery,” Colter said. “Yeah, I’m going to say Sweet Christmas a lot.”

Colter also confirms his solo Netflix series will feature more of his origin.

“I think we show it in a really cool way,“ he said. “He wasn’t trying to be a superhero [in Jessica Jones]. The series [Luke Cage is] about him growing into that.”

Check out some images from the Wizard World comic convention, which includes none other than the Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno. Daredevil Charlie Cox managed to get a pic with the Green Goliath as well.

Watch: Daredevil Vs. Punisher Fight From Season 2

Daredevil Season 2 is now availabe on Netflix with all 13 episodes.

The first episode, “Bang,” features the Man Without Fear talking on Frank Castle for the first time.

Someone went and uploaded the fight on to YouTube. Check it out below.

My thoughts:

I see the unrealistic fights and choreography carry over from the first season, which is a big disappoinment in my book. I recall normal guys getting up in that hallway scene after getting hit a hundred times as well as by butts of guns to the face. We see more of that hear as Daredevil and Punisher hit each other a gazillion times, and keep getting up.

These guys aren’t supposed to have super-strength or mutant healing powers, right?

Ah, well, at least I have John Wick 2 to look forward to.

Charlie Cox Wants Daredevil In Avengers: Infinity War

With their potentially being a lot of characters in Avengers: Infinity War, how about Daredevil being amongst them?

Well, it doesn’t seem to be on the cards at the moment, as Charlie Cox says he hasn’t gotten the call, but the actor tells Entertainment Tonight he wants in.

Jon Bernthal also talked about playing The Punisher offering it’s an honor and that he looks at playing the character as a responsibility.

Daredevil Season 2 Images Feature Jon Bernthal as Punisher, Elodie Yung as Elecktra & More

Daredevil NYCC Sizzle

Check out first look images at Season 2 of Daredevil which includes Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, and Elodie Yung as Elektra.

Regarding Punisher, Bernthal told EW.com:

”People have been coming up to me on the streets of New York saying, ‘Do not mess this up. This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.”

Regarding Elektra, showrunner Doug Petrie said:

“Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have. She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”

Daredevil Season 2 is said to premier on Netflix in March 2016 and stars Charlie Cox as the Man Without Fear.

Daredevil & Punisher Season 2 Teaser Description

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23124:]]

Check out a description for a Daredevil Season 2 teaser that was shown off at Comic-Con Experience in Brazil.

The scene features Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher) and Elodie Yung (Elektra).

Via Tumblr:

The “teaser” started on a scene where Matt, dressed as Daredevil (wearing the uniform from the end of season 1) walks on a room that looked like a refrigerator. The place was barely lit and had big slices of meat hanging from the ceiling.

As Daredevil walks on that room (the camera focused only at him) we see that he’s searching for something as he stays quiet, slowly walking deep into the room, turning his head trying to hear something. At some point, something not show to the spectator grasps his attention.

The camera open focus to the rest of the room and we see that there are alsopeople being hanged like meat.

Matt searches the corpses with his super senses, not touching, only trying for heart beats, once he finds someone he rush to aid the man: “I’ll take you of that”(or something like it), he says as he tries to take the barely alive man off the hook.

After succeeding, he lays the guy (that I have no idea of how he could be alive considering how badly injured the dude was) on the ground and say something along the lines “Why did they do this to you?” In which the guy mumbles “They? It was just a guy”. Matt stays dead silent, camera focusing on him.

The scene shifts. It’s night time and someone is on the top of a building aiming a sniper riffle at a person on a taxi. I’m not sure if the person being aimed was a man or a woman, though it looked like a woman.

The man behind the gun is no one else but the Frank Castle. While Frank is readying his riffle for the perfect shot, unaware of his surroundings, DD appears.

Running on the rooftop, he jumps and kicks the gun, amazingly diving over Frank to stop him. They soon engage on a fight, but when it was getting interesting and intense as fuck the scene was cut with the Daredevil logo and “2016 – NETFLIX”.

Daredevil Charlie Cox Is Contracted To Do Marvel Movies

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20232:]]

Will we see the Man Without Fear side-by-side The Avengers?

It’s definitely a strong possibility with the success the Daredevil Netflix series has become in addition to the positive fan reception.

While Charlie Cox has stated he hasn’t heard anything from Marvel Studios, the good news is that it’s in Cox’s contract to do be a part of the MCU.

Speaking with close-upfilm.com, Cox says:

It’d be great. I’ve read Civil War [comic] now, I’ve read The New Avengers [comic], I know he’s in there but I think I missed the boat on Civil War because they’re filming that. I don’t know, Marvel have not mentioned that to me at all. It’s in my contract that if they want me to do it, I’m there, and I would love that. That would be an extension of the dream, but I’m a pretty happy customer at this point, to get to do the series again. And I get to do The Defenders at some point.

While Cox may not be appearing in Captain America 3, perhaps we will see Daredevil in Marvel’s Infinity War movies.

Daredevil is currently available on Netflix with 13 episodes, and Season 2 is in the works.

Daredevil Showrunner Wants R-Rated Punisher

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19866:]]

With hopefully the upcoming Marvel Netflix Daredevil series being such a success, perhaps following Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist we could see the Punisher.

Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight recently spoke with SciFiNow and stated he would love to get an R-Rated Punisher series made.

“I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this,” DeKnight said. “Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”

Though Daredevil won’t be R-rated, it will still be pretty dark and gritty, and Charlie Cox even said the Man Without Fear is pretty close to the character of the Punisher.

“Steven DeKnight said that Daredevil is one bad day away from being the Punisher,” added Cox. “I thought that was really helpful. Again, it adds to the dark tone, and I think it’s more interesting to watch.”

Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson previously played Frank Castle, maybe Steven DeKnight already has plans for a new “Frank” to cameo in Daredevil?

“Daredevil” premiers with all 13 episodes on April 10th.
