Willa Holland Confirms Arrow Character Deaths Because of DC Movies

Willa Holland and Katrina Law appeared at the recent MCM London Comic-Con where they confirmed character deaths on Arrow are a result of the DC movies.

Holland and Law confirmed the Suicide Squad character deaths in Arrow were a result of the movie, and it’s heavily speculated the same applies to the recent death of Black Canary in the series as well. It’s also been said Atom was used instead of Blue Beetle because of potential movie plans.

Holland and Law also make comments that they think both Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin would have killed it in the DC movie universe if allowed to play their respective characters of Green Arrow and The Flash.

Watch the video below for more.

Holland offered:

When DC found out they were going to be doing their own movie we had to axe all of the characters before we even got to show them.

It was annoying at first and then when Stephen found out there was going to be a Justice League movie it only seemed, rightly so, he would be playing Green Arrow on it as well as Grant playing the Flash. It just seemed like the right normal answer.

Once they said no, you can’t really fight against them for it, because they are the people that gave us a job in the first place.

You just have to sit there on your hands, like okay, I get it!”

Stephen Amell Hints Green Arrow Is Headed To The DC Movie Universe Minus Him

Will see see a different Green Arrow in the DCEU than on TV?

It’s definitely possible, especially considering Zack Snyder cast a different actor for the Justice League movie Flash.

And it’s already known the Arrow Suicide Squad characters, and most likely Black Canary, were killed off to pave way for the characters to appear in the DC movies.

Now while appearing on Larry King, Arrow star Stephen Amell seemingly hints the same path might be set for his character as well.

Stephen Amell makes it known there are no present plans for Green Arrow in the DC movie universe, but says if there were, they probably wouldn’t include him. Amell then makes note “but things change,” which obviously suggests Green Arrow may eventually appear on the silver screen at some point minus his involvement.

Watch the video below for yourself especially paying attention to that last remark, “but things change,” that comes of rather skeptical.

Here’s the text:

“Well, I mean it has become easier to take properties on television and turn them into films, but I don’t know, those are things that exist out…” Amell said, with Larry King interrupting that Grant Gustin wasn’t cast as the movie Flash.

“No. The cinematic universe and the television universe are separate,” Amell responded.

Larry King then remarked that Amell might not be cast if there was a movie.

“I might not be. I’ve spoken with people within DC, and they said there’s no plan to bring the Green Arrow character to the cinematic universe,’  Amell said, and then added, with a seemingly skeptical, “But things change.”

It should be noted Arrow is returning for a Season 5, so it’s not like the series is getting cancelled. Similar to The Flash TV series, it’s possible both the TV and movie versions could run concurrently; however, would Stephen Amell be down with that and another actor playing the role of Oliver Queen and Green Arrow?

Stephen Amell Responds To Being Called An F’n Idiot Over Arrow Season 4

It might be a good thing that Memorial Day weekend is here, so we can all have a few Stone Colds and let loose some steam.

This past week has seen the internet become a powder keg due to various events, including Captain America and even the Arrow Season 4 finale, which saw Oliver’s friends leave except for Felicity, who many fans can’t stand (it probably didn’t help that Felicity “told the fans” she isn’t going anywhere).

A fan took to Stephen Amell’s Facebook page to blast the actor for reported hypocritical remarks, which has caused Amell to respond.

Amell’s remarks/meme:

The fan’s response to those remarks:

Amell with all due respect this is hypocritical and asinine at it’s best, I’ve watched Arrow since it’s pilot, watched countless reruns on Netflix and have defended the show when nobody or very few of the fans would, then you say the ONE thing that’s killed this show and that the ONE thing fans have hated since S3 we have to LIKE in order to be fans of the show? Or just to watch Arrow? Sorry Sir but you’re a f–king idiot

Stephen Amell’s response:

I disagree. For starters, I wasn’t responding to the dislike of one particular thing on the show. I was discussing one platform and how anonymity makes people cyber brave. You don’t have to like or dislike any one thing to be a fan of the show. But some of the criticism and vitriol towards fictional characters and the actual people who play them is comically outsized. I do enjoy an apology though before being called a fucking idiot. And because you put your name on it… I give it serious consideration. Hope you can see my comments in the broader context Jacob.

No Alan Scott Green Lantern For DC TV Universe

It’s learned – again – that Green Lantern won’t be appearing any time in the DC TV Universe.

Prior to Thursday’s episode of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, it was thought that possibly the surprise character reveal at the end was Alan Scott Green Lantern; however, EP Marc Guggenheim shot that down and notes the character is attached to the films.

“I’ll tell you right now, because I never want anyone to be disappointed, he’s not Alan Scott,” Guggenheim told CBR. “I love Alan Scott. I’ve written Alan Scott in the comics. Alan Scott is also attached to the Green Lantern franchise, which DC obviously has feature plans for. In the poll of ‘who it’s going to be,’ you can cross off Alan Scott.”

It’s been speculated Green Lantern has been wanted for DC TV due to the many Easter Eggs found in the various series, with one even going so far to describe a certain pilot. I do think this season has seen the Green Lantern Easter Eggs subside, obviously due to the Green Lantern Corps and Justice League movies. We already know WB put the kibosh on using Suicide Squad for Arrow, Blue Beetle, and it’s probably a safe bet that Black Canary was killed off to make way for the character to appear in the DCEU. More than likely, WB doesn’t want another controversy similar to Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller as The Flash, so no characters will be shared.

Stephen Amell Teases Green Arrow Goatee; Wants Kevin Smith To Direct; Spotted With Jason Momoa

It look as if we might get the Green Arrow goatee from the comics on the Arrow TV show as Stephen Amell took to Facebook to tease the look.

Amell notes a while ago he said he would never grow the goatee, but he counters that by stating he’s an “idiot.”

A fan in the comments also suggests that since Kevin Smith recently directed an episode of The Flash, that Stephen Amell should work with Smith, which Amell thinks is a good idea.

“This is a f—ing awesome idea,” agreed Amell.

Stephen Amell was also spotted with fellow Arrow actor David Ramsey along with the DCEU version of Aquaman, Jason Momoa.

“Three amigos at an Inn called Cock…,” Ramsey posted on Instagram.

Amell also has TMNT 2 opening next month; he plays Casey Jones.

Details On DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Spoiler Future & Season 2

Spoilers follow for tonight’s episode of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

Without revealing too many details about tonight’s stellar episode of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, the episode did see the death of Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold.

However, as DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow happens to be a time travel show, it’s learned this is not the last we’ve seen of Leonard Snart.

Deadline reveals Wentworth Miller has signed a new contract with WB TV that will enable him to appear on any of the CW TV shows, which means he will no longer be a regular on DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow next season, but the good news is that Snart will still appear at some point.

Regarding season 2 of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, it’s also revealed two new members will be joining the team, a male and female.

Greg Berlanti offered on Wentworth Miller and Captain Cold:

“We always knew that he wouldn’t be a permanent member of The Waverider. We also knew we loved him on the show and all the shows, Flash as well.”

“What it really emulates to us is the comic books themselves where there really are a cast of characters,” Berlanti said. While Miller, who also has been filming the Prison Breakfollowup, “won’t be part of the team of Legends on board of The Waverider next year, he will have a very active role on the show.”

Miller’s is “the first contract not applicable to just one show,” Berlanti said. “In success we hope to continue with other characters finding their way across all the shows.”

“He is a guy who who was a villain at the beginning, finding the hero in him by the end,” Berlanti said.

On Season 2 of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow:

“One of joys and advantages is that it allows us to change in success who is on The Waverider and not,” Berlanti said. “Flash and Arrow are very much about building one team, while there is an anthology element to Legends.”

“Every year for this show people should expect a new adventure,” said Berlanti, dropping a few hints about Season 2. “There will be new teammates, a new big bad. Mixing and matching things is part of the fun of the show.”

“DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow” airs Thursday’s at 8pm ET on The CW starring Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance, Ciara Renée as Hawkgirl, Franz Drameh as Firestorm, Dominic Purcell as Heatwave, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Falk Hentschel as Hawkman, and Casper Crump as Vandal Savage.

Supergirl Moves To CW For Season 2

Good news for fans of Supergirl as Season 2 is green lit and will now air on The CW.

Supergirl will also see its production moved fom Los Angeles to Vancouver, which is also the home of Greg Berlanti’s other DC series, Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

The news comes after much speculation that Supergirl would move to The CW as CBS wasn’t sure if they were going to renew the series citing high licensing and production costs.

The talks with CBS actually helped out The CW as reportedly WB was already making changes to make Supergirl less costly, with the aforementioned move to Vancouver amongst them.

The Flash Grant Gustin recently crossed over to Supergirl, which saw a big spike in ratings. Supergirl and Melissa Benoist should be right at home on The CW, and with the move to Vancouver, more than likely we’ll see additional crossovers in the future as well.

Arrow Spoiler Death Revealed

SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR TONIGHT’S ARROW

Though the info previously leaked online, now the episode has aired revealing the Arrow SPOILER death.

Damien Darhk killed Laurel Lance, aka Black Canary, played by Katie Cassidy.

DCComic.com posted the spoiler info along with comments from Arrow Executive Producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle, and actors Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance) and Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance).

Note: It’s not the last we’ve seen of Katie Cassidy as she will be playing an alternate version of Black Carnary on The Flash known as Black Siren.

Via DC:

Damien Darhk violently stabbed Laurel Lance to death in revenge for Quentin’s betrayal in tonight’s episode of Arrow.

So why Laurel?

Marc Guggenheim: Arrow is always evolving. It’s a show where every character, arguably except for Oliver, is fair game. We started off this year with the promise of a death, and when we worked our way through our creative choices, we realized that the thing that will give us the most pop going into the end of the season and next season, unfortunately, would be Laurel.

We knew that it would enrage a lot of people. We’re not blind to the “shipping” and the internet controversy, but we’ve never made decisions on the show creatively because of the internet. One of the things we knew that people would think is that in a season where Oliver and Felicity get engaged and Laurel dies, that’s clearly making a choice about who’s going to end up with whom. Truth be told, we told the Laurel/Oliver romance story in Season 1. We never really thought about going back to it.

We recognize that upsets a lot of fans, particularly the comic book fans. In the comics, Dinah Lance and Oliver Queen are in a romance together. To some people, that is considered canonical and iconic. We respect that, but at the same time we’ve always made no bones about the fact that we’re telling our own version of the Green Arrow mythos. Green Arrow and Black Canary have had so many different interpretations over the years that we never felt beholden to one particular interpretation.

This is our interpretation, like it or not, and I recognize that there are plenty of people up and down my Twitter feed who do not like it. I totally respect that. But it made the most creative sense for us going forward, despite the fact that we love Katie. We absolutely love her. That part, not getting the chance to work with Katie day in and day out is tempered by the fact that [the show] now lives in a universe where there’s resurrection, parallel earths, time travel and flashbacks. We have all these different ways of keeping Katie in the Arrowverse family. In fact, you will see her in an episode of Flash, playing the Earth-2 version of Laurel Lance. Katie is also reprising her role as Laurel of Earth-1 in Vixen Season 2. Death does not mean goodbye on any of these shows.

Katie, can you talk about the emotions of shooting your death scene?

Katie Cassidy: I had found out that this was the choice that was going to be made creatively right before we were shooting some court scenes, and I remember having to put it on the backburner because I had a huge day of legal jargon ahead. But it actually worked out really well because I’m actually in [the April 27th episode] in flashbacks.

The scene where I’m in the hospital and I say to the team that I was thinking of giving up the Black Canary and I couldn’t do it—shooting that scene was so real for me because it was my saying goodbye to the team and all of us. It definitely wasn’t difficult for me to get to that emotional point. It was hard, but it was very real and I felt like that was good. It was genuine.

Paul, Quentin Lance has lost Sara twice and now has lost Laurel. Can you talk a little bit about that?

Paul Blackthorne: Quentin’s point of view is almost like that of the audience’s, and all of the outrageousness this year with the magic and everything, he can’t really take it on as a reality. But if this is the result of what’s going on, he has to deal with it. He can’t really accept it, but he has to accept that it is happening.

This death, of course, is just devastating for Quentin. Because this is not the one that was ever supposed to happen. Personally, I was almost as devastated as Quentin was when I got the news about this because Katie and I have had such an amazing working relationship, it actually really is hard to accept that I’ll be going to work without this fabulous lady to work with.

In terms of Quentin, he’s going to have to pick up the pieces, not pick up a bottle, and reconcile what’s left of his life. Obviously, he’s got the Arrow family. That will be where he’ll have to find his anchor now from here on in without his beautiful daughter.

Should viewers be suspicious about how the death was presented? How Laurel was fine and wanted some sort of favor from Oliver, and then the next time we see her, she’s dying?

Guggenheim: That’s the joke I’ve been making—“Oliver Queen killed Laurel!” There are certain coins of the realm on our show. Death is one of them, mysteries and secrets are another. What did Laurel say to Oliver? We didn’t intend for it to be that she asked Oliver to euthanize her.

But could he have drugged her and faked her death?

Guggenheim: No, we’ve done that. We’ve done a fake death before. That’s the thing. We’re always trying to figure out new ways of doing this. That fake out where she was okay and then she wasn’t was our attempt at doing a death that we hadn’t done before. We’ve had people killed right in front of Oliver, we’ve faked a death, we’ve had someone be fatally injured and then Oliver arrives on the scene. The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones have this same creative challenge. It’s the nature of having a long-running show that deals with death as a major component of it.

Will we find out what Laurel said to Oliver?

Wendy Mericle: You’ll know in Season 5.

Katie, how did you go about letting go of the character after you found out about the plan?

Cassidy: Since Season 2 up until now, Laurel has had a truly amazing journey. The writers have written so well for me and I’ve had such an incredible arc. It made sense to me creatively. Laurel’s story has come to an end in the Arrowverse.

I love everyone on set and our crew. Being there for four and a half years, they’ve become family, so it’s hard to not go into work every day and get to work with such amazing people. That part is certainly sad, but I was okay with it. We all came to an understanding that this was what was going to happen and it made sense to me.

I think the shock value is good. It’s such a jolt and a turn in the story that it gives the writers so much more to do and places to go with it. Otherwise, I feel like shows can get stale.

Blackthorne: That’s what the writers are masters of. From one episode to one season, culminating in months like this. That’s what makes the show so watchable. You never know what’s coming next, and this is like the mother of all of that.

So what sort of emotional aftermath will this have on the rest of the team?

Mericle: Well, it’s going to be huge and significant. There’s no question that it is going to be shocking. It was a shocking thing for us to process. We really wanted to make sure we [wrote the aftermath] in a way that was very honorable and that gave us space to honor all of the characters’ reactions to it. The episode’s we’ve written after this one are devastating, and they’re meant to be. That’s what we wanted. We wanted to explore that and have everyone feel the impact of this loss because it is significant. It’s a game changer. In both a very sad way because we’re losing a beloved character, but also in a sense that it’s going to open up new storytelling avenues and will force our character to rethink their decisions and their objectives.

Death is a reality on this show, and I think with the Lazarus Pit and possibility of coming back that it’s easy sometimes to forget that our characters are vigilantes. They’re out on the street and they’re doing really dangerous things. What this does is it really brings that reality back in a very brutal way. I think it’s good for the audience to be reminded of that and our characters as well.

How much guilt will the characters be carrying over this?

Guggenheim: We’ve already heard Oliver say in the first episode’s flashforward that in the past he would have blamed himself. It’s still Oliver. There’s an element of that. But Diggle… Like he says in that hospital, he’ll never forgive himself. I’d say the biggest consequences emotionally are felt by Thea and Diggle. You can draw a straightish line from his decisions in this episode to Laurel’s death, and that’s certainly not a fact lost on him.

Will news of this reach Sara on Legends of Tomorrow?

Guggenheim: Sara will find out on Legends. I think we give it it’s due. We always said on Legends that we weren’t going to shy away from this development as far as Sara was concerned and Paul was very gracious to lend his time to Legends to really allow us to explore that.

Katie, what was the most memorable part of playing Laurel for four seasons?

Cassidy: When I put the jacket on for the first time at the end of Season 2.

Guggenheim: I remember that night!

Cassidy: Yeah, I still get a little choked up talking about it because I was so excited. I remember trying on the jacket because I’d been waiting for that moment.

I think that for me was the turning point. Obviously, in Season 2, my character had a really hard time. The writers were writing so brilliantly and it was great to be able to take on that challenge and hit rock bottom and then come back on top. Being in fight training and getting to become a strong female character that’s also out there kicking some ass too was definitely something cool. I had a blast doing it.

“Arrow” airs Wednesdays at 8pm ET starring Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne and John Barrowman.
