Watch: Mark Hamill Pitches Evil Luke Skywalker

Check out video above featuring Mark Hamill telling the story about how he pitched Luke Skywalker going to the Dark Side to George Lucas following Empire Strikes Back.

The video recently surfaced from ten years ago when Hamill appeared on Jon Favreau’s Dinner for Five series, which interestingly enough also has JJ Abrams as a guest.

Some fans are speculating Abrams may have turned Luke to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“As an actor, that would be more fun to play,” Hamill noted about an evil Luke. “When we finished [Episode II], I figured that’s what will be the pivotal moment. I’ll have Han Solo in my crosshairs, and I’ll be about to kill him, or the Princess, or somebody that we care about.”

Hamill also offered up some details on how his evil Luke would look like, which seems what Lucas may have borrowed from for Anakin’s own look in the prequels (via vulture).

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits December 18th.

Manu Bennett Cast As Allanon In Shannara TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18412:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18413:]]

Manu Bennett, known for playing Deathstroke in Arrow, has been cast in MTV’s upcoming Shannara TV series as the druid Allanon described by THR “as a wise, perceptive and serious man who knows something incredibly important has begun when the wise tree Ellcrys starts to die.”

Bennett joins Austin Butler, who was announced earlier to play Wil Ohmsford, a half-elf half human that Allanon recruits to save the four lands. Poppy Drayton has also been cast as the Elven Princess, Amberle Elessedil.

Shannara is based on the best-selling Terry Brooks fantasy novels of the same name. The first season on MTV is based on the second book, The Elfstones Of Shannara.

I’ve read a bunch of these, and I must say Manu Bennett is an interesting choice to play Allanon. If you are familiar with the series, Allanon is a tall, intimidating and powerful character. With Bennett on board we are probably going to see a lot of action as Allanon battles a lot of demons and things of that nature in The Elfstones novel. Good choice.

Shannara is set for ten episodes written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Jonathan Liebesman is directing the first two episodes. Jon Favreau is on board as a producer.

Originally, Jon Favreau was supposed to be attached to the project; now it’s stated he had to exit due to scheduling conflicts, but will remain on as an executive producer.

Jon Favreau Adapting Shannara TV Series For MTV

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12549:]]

First reported back in September of 2012, the Terry Brooks Shannara TV series continues in development and now appears to be seeing the light of day at MTV with Iron Man director Jon Favreau attached.

Deadline reports that the new Shannara series for MTV will have its pilot directed by Jon Favreau with Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar on board as writers.

If MTV likes what they see with the script, it’s said they will go with a straight-to-series order.

While a fantasy series akin to Lord of the Rings seems as an odd pairing with MTV, it’s noted a new president is on board with Susanne Daniels, also responsible for bringing Smallville to life and that the series will work well with MTV’s other successful show, Teen Wolf.

“I am thrilled to be working with the Smallville creators Al and Miles again along with the amazingly talented Jon Favreau,” Daniels said. “We feel that the Shannara novels are a perfect fit for MTV as this type of fantasy genre has continuously proved to resonate with our audience.”

Terry Brooks has been penning the series since Sword Of Shannara debuted in 1977 with three more planned for next year.

“The adaptation of these books is very important to me, and I believe we are on the right track in our endeavor to create an epic television series that both new and old fans of the books will love,” Brooks said in a statement.

The MTV series will start its first season with the second book, Elfstones of Shannara, which is considered by some to be the best of the series.

I actually discovered Brooks’ novels before Lord of the Rings in grammar school and have loved them ever since. Terry Brooks is the second-biggest-selling living fantasy book writer, after Harry Potter’s J.K. Rowling.

Here’s the description for Elfstones of Shannara from Amazon:

Ancient Evil threatens the Elves: The ancient tree created by long-lost Elven magic, is dying. When Wil Ohmsford is summoned to guard the Amberle on a perilous quest to gather a new seed for a new tree, he is faced with the Reaper, the most fearsome of all Demons. Iron Man’s Jon Favreau Says “We’ll See” To Star Wars

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3929:]]

Among all the recent no-votes for Star Wars, including Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams comes a glimmer of interest.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau was asked about the recent Star Wars news to which he responded rather enthusiastically and didn’t flat out turn down the offer.

Favreau tells Hollywoodlife.com:

“I think both J.J. and I come from a generation of people who formed our whole creative persona around what we experienced as kids from watching those films, and I have had the good fortune of working with George [Lucas] and around George, and whether it is doing a voice on Clone Wars, or being at the Skywalker Ranch mixing Iron Man – so I have been very happy and lucky to just experience the culture that Lucas has created, both in my own life growing up as a kid and professional – whether it was interviewing him at film festivals on stage, he is just a really wonderful, talented gifted guy who has changed the business so much, so I am just giddy, first and foremost as a fan, to see what happens with it. I think there is a lot of question marks of how they are going to do it, and who they are going to do it with, and what the story is going to be about; but to say that I am not excited about it is definitely an understatement. We’ll see.”

Would Favreau be a good fit for Star Wars? Iron Man was blockbuster movie with Iron Man 2 not being as well received by the fans, with speculation leading to lay blame on Marvel Studios. There was also the lackluster Cowboys & Aliens as well; however Favreau was most recently responsible for the pilot to NBC’s Revolution which saw a good draw.

This might be it.
