SYFY Krypton Review: Awesome

SYFY Krypton Review: Awesome

NBCUniversal sent over the pilot episode of SYFY and David S. Goyer’s new Superman prequel series, Krypton.

I can’t get into any specifics until the episode airs, but I can say that it is pretty awesome!

As we all know, Goyer wrote the Man of Steel script and was responsible (along with Zack Snyder) in creating that stellar opening set on Krypton. The good news is that the new Krypton TV series shares the same feel of the Man of Steel opening.

I’ll also allay any fears that Krypton is going to be similar to something like a “CW” show (or even a cheesy SyFy show)–it’s not. The special effects for Krypton are top-notch, the acting is superb, and it’s not a “teen” drama.

Krypton can be serious at times, with elements of humor and is more science-fiction than “sci-fi” (again more like Man of Steel).

What else can I say without spoiling things?

The music score is epic.

I like the story a lot, and it obviously connects to the DC Universe, so there are elements at play that will please all the DC fans (Krypton, Brainiac, Adam Strange, Superman).

I think if you were a fan of Man of Steel, but disappointed with Batman vs. Superman and Justice League, you should be pretty happy with what Krypton provides.

Likewise, even if you felt Man of Steel went too far in some parts, while this was only the pilot episode, there are those classic elements of “hope” from the DC comics and previous Superman films.

Goyer really takes Krypton to another level, and Krypton is probably the best DC TV series to date. It’s good to have Goyer back a part of the DC universe!

Krypton premieres Wednesday, March 21st at 10/9C.

Here is the recent Brainaic promo, trailer, official description and images:

What if Superman never existed? Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, as a young man who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg finds himself in a difficult position.  He must redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).

KRYPTON is from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Dark Knight Trilogy”) through his Phantom Four banner, alongside Cameron Welsh, who serves as showrunner. In addition to Cuffe, Sipos and Ritson, the show also stars Georgina Campbell (“Broadchurch”), Elliot Cowan (“Da Vinci’s Demons”), Ann Ogbomo (“World War Z”), Rasmus Hardiker (“Your Highness”), Wallis Day (“Will”), Aaron Pierre (“Tennison”) and Ian McElhinney (“Game of Thrones”). Based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
