'Superman' Test Screening Not Reliable: 'Open To BS'

We get insights into the recent claims surrounding Superman test screenings, which are said to be unreliable and “open to BS.”

Fan article likely made up

A fan user on Comic Book Movie wrote up a fan article claiming a test screening was held for James Gunn’s Superman movie with the reactions said to be “Guardians of the Galaxy-level good.” The site does use fan editors but the possible bogus rumor seems to have somehow gotten past them. Anyone can post articles on the site, so for example, whenever there is a NFL game or such, someone posts pirate links to pirate sites.

Well, it seems the article at Comic Book Movie may have been made up in response to those recent claims from Jeff Sneider that the buzz surrounding Superman is not good and that fans should be worried.

There hasn’t been a real Superman test screening

We get word from ViewerAnon on X – who has had scoops come true – that Comic Book Movie‘s claims are likely BS. ViewerAnon says that a real test screening hasn’t even been held, it’s just been screenings done internally at WB:

Any and all SUPERMAN test screenings so far – I don’t know how many have taken place – have been internal. Even by test screening standards, take any leaks from internal screenings, positive or negative, with a huge grain of salt.

Public test screening can be verified

ViewerAnon added that if a real Superman test screening was held, it would be easily known, as fans that went would obviously talk about it:

Everyone knows test screening reactions are not automatically indicative of quality or wide reaction. But a public test screening can at least be verified. Internally you’re dependent on someone at the studio or close to the filmmakers to break their confidence.

How’d it work out for Batman vs. Superman?

ViewerAnon brought up the point that it was said prior to the release of Batman vs. Superman that it was the best movie ever; however, now we know how it turned out:

It’s just a lot less verifiable. More open to BS (remember when BATMAN V SUPERMAN got “a standing ovation” from WB execs?) or randos saying “Trust me bro” about a movie they’re trying to hype up or kill

Gunn afraid to have public Superman test screening

A fan questioned if anything will come out in the spring from real Superman test screenings, which saw ViewerAnon doubt Gunn will do it because it could hurt the film too much and the DCU:

I doubt it will ever test publicly, the process for DC is too leaky
