James Gunn has found his Martha “Ma” Kent for Superman and it’s Neva Howell who joins the recently announced Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan “Pa” Kent.
David Corenswet is playing the new Man of Steel and Clark Kent, so Neva Howell and Pruitt Taylor Vince are of course playing his adoptive parents on Earth.
Neva Howell is known for Ghosts of the Ozarks, The Resident, The Originals, Run the Race (where she plays a character named Martha), Diary of a Wimp Kid: The Long Haul (where she plays a Farmer Lady), Logan Lucky, My Fellow Americans, and more.
On the big screen, Martha Kent was recently played by Diane Lane in the Zack Snyder DCEU, Eva Marie Saint in Superman Returns, and the Richard Donner movies feature Phyllis Thaxter.
There has been some eyebrows raised regarding Gunn’s choice of cast for Superman with more than one remark comparing it to The CW, but it fits with what I’ve previously been told.
According to my insiders, David Zaslav demanded Gunn reboot DC with cheaper talent.
The cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is Green Lantern Guy Gardner; Edi Gathegi is playing Mister Terrific; María Gabriela de Faría is playing The Engineer; Anthony Carrigan is Metamorpho; Skyler Gisondo is Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio is Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, and Wendell Pierce is Perry White.
Superman gets released on July 11, 2025.
