A new rumor claims James Gunn and DC might capitalize on Marvel’s struggles by moving up Supergirl to the now-vacant Avengers: Doomsday release date.
Presently, Supergirl is slated to release on June 26, 2026.
Disney recently announced it pushed back both the release dates for Avengers: Doomsday, moved from May 1 to December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars moving from May 7 to December 17, 2027.

Rumor Claims Supergirl Could Take Over Marvel’s Old Date
According to a user on X who has proven scoops, Supergirl might move to that May 1 release date and open up summer 2026 in a big way. Via ThwipT:

DCU Builds Hype While Marvel Retreats
Marvel lacks confidence
While Marvel has been falling as of late and seems to be lacking confidence in its titles (Marvel Studios won’t be at Comic-Con to promote Fantastic Four when it gets released that weekend or any of its Disney+ shows which includes Ironheart and Wonder Man), James Gunn’s DCU is on the upswing.
The sky’s the limit for Gunn’s Superman
A recent report from the trades actually said Superman has a chance of hitting a billion dollars at the box office and could open to a huge $175M. If that holds, that opening weekend number alone would be nearly larger than most of the recent MCU movies.
Gunn has also teased his Superman which gets released in July will have a post-credit scene. Fans are already speculating it will feature Milly Alcock as Supergirl, who has already been reported to be appearing in the film. The Supergirl movie will also introduce Jason Momoa as Lobo, which could be a big draw for fans.

Avengers disassembled
Regarding what is going on with Avengers, it’s been claimed they have been filming without a finished script. Worth a mention is the release date delay also pushes Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars further away from Feige’s MCU busts of Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World. This summer’s Fantastic Four could also be another.
DC vs Marvel wars are back on.
