Stephen Amell on John Cena and James Gunn: ‘F’k Those Guys’

Stephen Amell reacts to the joke in the Peacemaker show about Green Arrow and says “f’k those guys” regarding John Cena and James Gunn.

The first season of Peacemaker features many jokes about the DC characters, with one joke in particular about Green Arrow.

Cena’s titular character says, “That dude goes to brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight sparkling with a four-inch wide butthole drilled into the costume.”

Steve Agee’s John Economos adds, “That’s true about Green Arrow, but that’s the first thing he said that’s real,” with Freddie Stroma’s Adrian Chase, adding, “And Aquaman f’ks fish.”

Following the episode first airing a couple of years ago, a fan questioned Amell about it on social media who replied, “Haven’t seen it. Too busy showing Cena what professional wrestling should actually look like on tv.”

Now while talking with Chris Van Vliet‬, Stephen Amell opens up more about it and didn’t hold back when discussing the jab.

“That was a little unnecessary. I didn’t f***ing appreciate that at all,” said Amell.

He then went on to voice his frustration about how Arrow and other CW shows have been treated over the years, especially compared to the larger DC movies and shows like Peacemaker.

“Okay. I am just going to come right out and say this. There was just such… between the movies and Peacemaker a little bit… our show as kind of treated like shit. I get it, we’re on the CW, I get it, it’s TV,” Amell said. “But I also get the fact that when people think about the most recent iteration of DC, they don’t think about the Snyder Cut—they think about the Arrowverse. We got crapped on for years, and years, and years, and this just seemed excessive. I’m not actually mad, but I just remember hearing that and just being like, f*** those guys, like seriously.”

Amell continued with mentioned how he works just as hard as anyone else.

“I’m up here. I’m working just as hard as anyone else. Do you know how hard it is to play a superhero with no superpowers for 23 episodes a year? It’s really, really, really hard, and I’m not looking for a prize but like maybe don’t shit on our show,” he said while joking and laughing they might have to cut that out of the pocast.

Despite the frustration, Amell made it clear that his feelings weren’t personal toward Cena, whom he described as “a nicer, more genuine person.” He added, “If I should be mad at anyone, it should be James Gunn for writing that in the first place. But [Cena] could not be a nicer guy. It’s not a personal vendetta against [Cena].”

When Van Vliet suggested a potential wrestling match between Amell and Cena for Cena’s retirement tour, Amell, who is no stranger to pro wrestling, responded, “Sure. Why not? I’m scared of that guy though, he’s huge. He’s large,” before adding, “He’s very, very, very, very kind.”

Amell’s Heels also starts airing on Netflix starting Sept. 15.
