I suppose depending how you look at it, Star Wars being described as not like Harry Potter can either be a good thing or a bad thing.
Disney released Part 2 of the Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas Star Wars Disney interview.
They are pretty much mum on what we can expect from Star Wars Episode VII in 2015, but do confirm they have spoken to a couple writers.
George Lucas offers that his creative consultant role means he will be helping with the script as there are a lot of gaps to fill.
Kathleen Kennedy, the veteran producer on the likes of Schindler’s List, The Sixth Sense, Jurassic Park, Hook, Indiana Jones, Poltergeist, and E.T. then said that Star Wars isn’t Harry Potter.
“This is not like a series of books like Harry Potter where you’ve already got a template of what the stories might be,” Kennedy says. “These are original stories and original ideas that come out of a world that is essentially in George’s head.”
Kennedy’s statements reflect what we have previously heard in that the Star Wars movies will not be based on any of the previous novels or comic books, but be all-new.
The pair then discuss future filmmakers on the Star Wars movies and what sort of director they are looking for.
“Enthusiasm, having a sense of how to tell stories within complex worlds like this,” Kennedy offers. “There are many people who sprang to mind, with writers and directors that I’ve worked with in the past, that I’m really excited to try to bring into the fold on this. I think we have an unique opportunity to go after some incredibly talented people. It’s not going to people who don’t already have some affinity for Star Wars already, probably. It’s going to be somebody who really appreciates what Star Wars meant to them and is excited to dive in and be a part of this. That’s the thing that I think will become immediately apparent are the directors who walk in the door and say, ‘I can’t wait to be a part of this.'”
