Itâs reported Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be taking over IMAX theaters for four weeks.
Itâs noted the move for IMAX isnât unheard of, but is a bit unusual, as the last time something similar occurred was four years go when the three Hobbit movies took over IMAX and were the only IMAX movies shown.
Itâs expected that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will break the IMAX opening-weekend record, which is currently held by Jurassic World with $44.2 million, having recently passed Disneyâs Iron Man 3 ($28.8 million).
In total, itâs expected that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in 700-800 IMAX locations worldwide, with around half in the U.S.
âStar Wars: Episode VII is the ultimate crossover movie â it crosses over to everyone,â Imax Entertainment CEO Greg Foster  said in a statement, with it noted Abrams shot scenes for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX.
