Spider-Verse Sequel and Spider-Women Details Made Known

Prior to the release of this weekend’s animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse movie, Sony announced that a sequel and a “Spider-Women” animated spinoff are in development.

Now details are made known about both movies.

Regarding the Spider-Verse sequel, which is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and written by David Callaham, it will focus on Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy—and will explore a romance between the two, a thread from Lord’s original script that ultimately didn’t fit in Into the Spider-Verse.

It’s further reported that the Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales sequel will serve as a launching pad for the “Spider-Women” animated spinoff with the characters confirmed to be Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon (a.k.a. Silk), and Jessica Drew (a.k.a. Spider-Woman).

The report also confirms that a live-action Silk movie is in development at Sony as well.

“I think it’s great that we’re going to be able to tell movies about female superheroes in this realm, and in the live-action realm as well, because I believe that there are going to be characters that really resonate for people,” producer Amy Pascal said. “They’re funny and quirky and different, and heroic in all kinds of different ways that only animation allows you to do.”

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is now out in theaters.
