The Schwartz is officially in motionâSpaceballs 2 has started filming, and Amazon MGM Studios has released the first behind-the-scenes photo of the cast at a table read.
The black-and-white image shows a mix of returning stars and new cast members gearing up for the long-awaited sequel to the 1987 cult classic.
Returning Cast Confirmed
Rick Moranis is back as Dark Helmet, marking another rare return to the spotlight after years away from acting. Heâs joined by Bill Pullman, reprising his role as the Han Solo parody Lone Starr, and Daphne Zuniga, who returns as Princess Vespa.
These three original cast members helped define the tone of the original Spaceballs, a sci-fi spoof that parodied Star Wars and other genre hits of the â70s and â80s.
New Additions to the Galaxy
Joining the returning stars in Spaceballs 2 are Josh Gad, who also co-wrote and produces the film, Keke Palmer, in an undisclosed role, and Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, whose role has not been revealed.
Also newly announced are Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Superman), whose distinctive look and comedic chops make him a natural fit for the Spaceballs universe, and George Wyner, who played Colonel Sandurz in the original film, will reprise the role.
The film is directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) and written by Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez. Mel Brooks, who also reprises his role as Yogurt, is producing the sequel.
Expect lots of Barf
John Candyâs children recently offered an update and said to expect lots of Barf.
â[During production] he let me know that they were working on it and gave me a little behind the scenes on whatâs happening and whoâs coming back,â said Chris Candy reveals âIt just sounds like a really fun project.â
He added, âWhat I can say is that itâs got a lot of Barf and Barf ilk in it.â Watch below.
A Cult Classic Returns
The original Spaceballs grossed $38 million domestically when it was released by MGM in 1987. Though it received mixed reviews at the time, it quickly gained a cult following for its sharp parodies and iconic lines. The sequel has been jokingly referred to over the years as Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Moneyâa reference Brooks himself made back in 2015.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the tone is expected to stay true to the originalâs parody-rich style, while poking fun at modern franchises like the MCU, DCU, and beyond.

Spaceballs 2 is set for a 2027 theatrical release. It is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
