It’s learned Transformers actor Shia LaBeouf was at one time considered for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie.

In an interview with Variety, Shia LaBeouf reveals following Fury, David Ayer approached him for the role of Scott Eastwood’s character, Lieutenant GQ Edwards, and also that the Suicide Squad script changed when Will Smith came on board, which may shed further light on why Tom Hardy bailed.

“The character was different initially,” LaBeouf said about GQ Edwards. “Then Will [Smith] came in, and the script changed a bit. That character and Tom [Hardy’s] character [later played by Joel Kinnaman] got written down to build Will up.”

Shia LaBeouf further reveals it was WB that decided not to use him for Suicide Squad.

“I don’t think Warner Bros. wanted me. I went in to meet, and they were like, ‘Nah, you’re crazy. You’re a good actor, but not this one.’ It was a big investment for them.”

“Suicide Squad” is directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.
