Scoop Confirmed: Zack Snyder Can Return To DC

My Comic-Con DC insiders are again proven correct as Zack Snyder offers up in a new interview that he would consider returning to DC but only under the right circumstances.

While I was at the SDCC this Summer, DC insiders filled me in on the original ending of The Flash and how it would have led to a Ben Affleck Batman Multiverse movie.

If things had gone according to the plan under Mike DeLuca, Henry Cavill would have been back as Superman in Man of Steel 2, the solo Ben Affleck Batman movie would have been made, and Zack Snyder could have returned to DC.

Jay Oliva touched upon it in those interviews following the release of The Flash.

Regarding what Zack Snyder has to say, in an interview with THR about Rebel Moon, Snyder says he talked to Gunn:

“I called him and said I wish all the best for him,” Snyder would later say about Gunn moving into his old Fortress of Solitude. “I told him I wanted it to work.”

As I previously said, I said I believe those talks initially may have been about DeLuca’s original plans and not the newly announced DCU, which I have been told came about from David Zaslav demanding that Gunn go with cheaper talent.

Snyder adds he would consider returning to DC to adapt Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns:

But Snyder says that chapter of his life is now closed, and it would be difficult to coax him to reopen it. If his buddy Gunn called and invited him back to DC, he might consider doing a Dark Knight Returns adaptation (but only “a true representation of the graphic novel”).

You will also recall that James Gunn said he talked with Ben Affleck, and when questioned, Affleck said, “I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.”

That’s because the end of The Flash featured Ben Affleck lost in the Multiverse setting up Final Crisis, so Affleck got screwed yet again.

Following the THR interview being published, Gunn made a point of stating he indeed did speak with Snyder.

“Like I said many months ago, when I shared that he did this, Zack is a good guy,” said Gunn on Threads.
