Sasha Calle Heartbroken After Supergirl Loss, Signed Multi-Picture Deal

Following The Flash movie, the plan was for Sasha Calle to continue on as the DCEU’s Supergirl, reportedly alongside the return of Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman, with Michael Keaton also sticking around as DC’s Dark Knight.

As my DC insiders filled me in, the real ending of The Flash was to lead to a Batman Multiverse. However, according to what I was told, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO nixed it all in favor of going with a DC reboot featuring cheaper talent. Enter James Gunn’s DCU.

Now we hear from Sasha Calle, who confirms she signed a multi-picture deal to play Supergirl and shot a different ending to The Flash. She also says she was heartbroken upon learning she wouldn’t be playing Supergirl. Instead, James Gunn has cast a new Supergirl in the role, played by House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock, who will first appear in Gunn’s new Superman movie starring new Man of Steel David Corenswet, before her own movie which has a June 26, 2026 release date.

Regarding what Sasha Calle had to say about Supergirl, she recently spoke with THR about In The Summers, which she managed to film during The Flash‘s press tour. Interestingly enough, Calle happens to be friends with Leslie Grace who also stars in the movie and was supposed to star in the canceled Batgirl movie.

“I don’t know what I would’ve done without Leslie, to be honest with you. I feel like she got it even worse, and yet, she was just this divine light of love and warmth,” Calle said, with he article noting the actresses wanted their Supergirl and Batgirl to meet up on screen. “And even though it came from a really confusing and painful situation, we got to have this beautiful friendship that is true and honest and sincere and kind. We were there for each other, and I am really happy that we had each other then.”

Calle was also forced to deal with the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller at the time, something she said wasn’t easy.

“It was very hard, I have to say. I had bittersweet feelings as I was maneuvering everything,” Calle admitted. “I was very excited, but there were a lot of unanswered questions for me, so it was very bittersweet.”

The article also notes that “Calle admits that there’s some frustration since she originally shot an ending of The Flash that was supposed to pave the way for future adventures as part of her multi-film contract.” Rumors offer that ending featuring her side by side the Henry Cavill Superman and Michael Keaton as Batman. Instead, the George Clooney Bruce Wayne ending was added at the end. It’s also known the Ben Affleck Batman lost in time ending was cut (leading to the Batman Multiverse).

“I had a conversation about her future many times,” said Calle. “When I signed onto that, it was for a multiple picture deal. That’s a common thing when you sign onto a franchise. So it was very heartbreaking for me, and it was very confusing. Ultimately, I know that I did my best.”

She added, “I look back at it as something super beautiful. It’s been said that a queer Latina girl like me couldn’t be Supergirl. But I was, and no one can take that away from me. That is the most important thing for me; I did something that mattered. And whether you saw yourself represented in me or not, a lot of people really connected with her and loved her.”

It’s also learned that Sasha Calle will be starring in Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s RIP about a group of Miami cops who discover a stash of millions in cash, leading to distrust as outsiders learn about the huge seizure, making them question who to rely on.

“Ben is so lovely. He’s so kind. Everyone has been so loving and welcoming, and has treated me with so much respect. We just did a table read [earlier this month], and it was so much fun,” she said.
