Ryan Reynolds Won’t Play Green Lantern Again

With Zack Snyder relaunching the DC movie universe, it's wondered who will be playing Green Lantern; one actor that can be ruled out is Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds starred in the 2011 Green Lantern movie that bombed at the box office, bringing in a measly $219.8 million worldwide. Echoing earlier statements made by the Green Lantern movie writers, Ryan Reynolds offers one of the problems with the film was that the script wasn't finished at the time of filming (I was actually told the script didn't even feature any Green Lantern constructs and had to be added at a later time).

“I don’t think it was fleshed out,”
Reynolds said of the Green Lantern movie to Variety. “You begin shooting without a finished script — they basically have storyboards, a poster, and a release date.”

The article notes Ryan Reynolds says he won’t reprise Green Lantern in future installments, which isn't a surprise seeing how successful Reynolds is with Deadpool. Reynolds also notes the failure of the Green Lantern movie was a reason why Fox Studios was hesitant about going forward with Deadpool.

“Part of the reason Deadpool wasn’t greenlit right away was certainly because of me,” Reynolds said. “If Robert Downey Jr. was playing it — I don’t know how much greener a light you can get to make a movie.”

Ryan Reynolds did offer a big reason Deadpool did get made is because of the "leaked" footage.

"When the leaked footage got around the internet, it created this enormous groundswell,” Reynolds said. “I credit Twitter users, Facebook users, and Instagram users for getting this movie made."

Regarding who leaked the Deadpool footage, Reynolds pleads the fifth.

"I have an entertainment lawyer.
I’ll leave it at that,” Reynolds said.

Deadpool 2 is currently in the works, and WB does have plans for a Green Lantern Corps movie with Green Lantern scpeculated for Justice League and/or Justice League 2.
