As I just went over on X, Ryan Coogler is currently at WB with Michael B. Jordan doing their own version of Marvel’s Blade, and now it’s announced Coogler is at Universal Pictures for the comic book movie, A Vicious Circle.
Blame Coogler for Black Panther?
Of course, Coogler directed the two billion dollar Black Panther movies at Marvel. I’ve seen more than one or two fans blame Coogler for Wakanda Forever, which is horrible, IMO.
As they should be, fans are upset Marvel didn’t recast following the death of Chadwick Boseman, and some are blaming Coogler. However, I doubt Coogler is to blame, and I think it’s Disney/Marvel who wouldn’t recast.
A Vicious Circle
Anyway, regarding the Universal Pictures comic book movie, THR announced Ryan Coogler is teaming with Mattson Tomlin on the adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book, A Vicious Circle.
Tomlin wrote the comic and is writing the screenplay for the movie, with Coogler’s Proximity Media production company producing. No word on who is directing, yet.
Mattson Tomlin co-wrote The Batman movies with Matt Reeves, and he’s behind that upcoming Terminator Anime, which hopefully comes off well. He’s also writing the HBO Game of Throne spinoff Aegon’s Conquest.
A Vicious Circle is described as “John Wick meets Looper” and is said to be a “two-hander action thriller about assassins from the future hunting each other through time.”
Here is the comic book description and there is even a trailer. Watch below.
Shawn Thacker is a trained assassin from the future who seeks revenge on the only other man with his affliction—each life they take forces them both to involuntarily travel between vastly different past and future eras. Spanning from 22nd century Tokyo to 1950s New Orleans to the Cretaceous Era and beyond, the two mortal rivals are locked in a battle of wills that spans millions of years, all to alter the course of history.
With each time period, legendary artist Lee Bermejo adjusts his artistic style to pay homage to luminary comics artists and historical master painters, presented in a prestige, oversized format.
